Nice saison from this small brewery. The aromas are heavy with yeasty, citrus and berry fruits, flowers, lemon and grass. The taste is very peppery, but in a good way, and it brought out the grassy nature more. Nicely crafted in the body and overall

A friend of mine sent me this Farmhouse Ale. I tend to like Farmhouse Ale but this one was extra good.

Look - It has a cloudy dark orange apple juice like hue with a thick white head.

Aroma - The aroma is citrus, grass and some pepper.

Taste - It is a great taste of tropical fruit, some yeast, grapefruit and pepper.

General - It is light/medium and no hint of the alcohol.

Enjoyed from the 22 oz bottle ina snifter. This nice saison pours a nice, lightly cloudy, dark amber with a decent head of white foam that settles to a thick ring and very thin layer with light lacing. Nose of light coriander, subtle sweet honey, light pepper, light tropical fruits, and mild yeasty funk. Flavors exceed the nose with light candy malts mixed with a nice yeasty flavor that fades to a white pepper and coriander flavor on the middle and settles on the back with a light herbal hop flavor. Subtle notes abound and increase with warmth with a light mango and pineapple flavor detected. Very nice with a peppery aftertaste and good lively carbonation that makes this a great sipper.

Batch number 88--hand numbered.

Cheers!

Batch 40 poured from a 22oz bottle into a tulip
A: Deep orange with just a hint of brown and a solid two-finger head that slowly settles
S: Complex with dried grain, florals, yeast, coriander and pepper
T: Grain up front with a spicy mid-palate adding florals to the spice on the finish. Pleasant though the spice is a bit heavy
M; Medium-bodied with heavy spice
O: Enjoyable but a bit more malt and a bit less spice would take it from very good to great

The Reaper saison is a hazy golden color with lots of lively carbonation bubbles coming from the bottom of my tulip. A large white foam head sticks around for a while.

The aroma is mostly citrus and grass, with some Belgian yeast notes, as well as the spices coming through a little. Overall I get a lot of grassy hops and additionally some nice tart funky notes.

Up front, I found this beer hoppy with a combination of citrus grapefruit and herbal grass. These flavors combine with malt for a slight fruity sweetness on the tongue but quickly fade to the spicy dry characteristics I expect in a Saison. The finish is grassy with a slight funk and coriander flavors linger. It seems like a cleaner drink than most saisons (though I haven't had one for a while), but the yeast esters are still there to make an impact. I don't get much of the 8.4% booze either. Being so fresh, the hops play quite a role in the flavor of this beer. It is refreshing and quite surprisingly good.

At first this seemed like a really big beer, with lots of complex flavors mingling on the tongue. Once I was a few drinks in, the mouthfeel was just about perfect. Carbonation was very high, but that is appropriate for the style.

Overall, I was very surprised that I enjoyed this so much. I am kind of sick of the local breweries and many American craft breweries brewing so many Belgian ales. Come on, leave that to the Belgians. But.... This one was pretty good. One that I would like to pick up again to see what it tastes like after a few months. The $10 price tag is too high, but you pay a price to support small local micro/nano brews. I'll probably try the Tripel when I get a chance. Hopefully they will start to brew some more exciting beers, as there are so many awesome Belgians already available. But if you see this, go ahead and try it. It is definitely a solid brew.

22 ounce bottle, Batch #6. Served in a Unibroue tulip, the beer pours a hazy golden/orange color with about an inch and a half off-white head that stays around for a long time. There's also a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like coriander, oranges and orange peel, bready/grainy malt, and peppery spice. The taste is similar to the aroma. The peppery spice is the strongest flavor at first, and there's also coriander, orange peel, bready/grainy malt and yeast noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit slick and is well carbonated. I think this is a good overall brew. Good thing I bought some of Granville's other brews, so I'll have to try them soon too! $9.99 a bottle.
