Described as a hopped stout; fresh growler poured into a North Brewery fluted snifter/fat tulip.
Looks great; the new growler caps really kept it fresh and carbonated.
Pours jet black with a huge dense creamy tan head that fades slowly leaving a dense rocky puck of foam and some dense rings of lacing.
Smells of an intriguing mix of citrus and fruity hops over top of dark roasty malt.
Tastes awesome. Fruity and citrus hops, with a hint of pine, blend smoothly into semi-sweet cocoa and bitter roasty coffee. Finishes wet and bittersweet with all flavors lingering in a wide-open aftertaste.
Mouthfeel is full and wet.
Overall, this is one of the best dark beers I've had from North so far, and I've had a lot. This is solidly in that grey (black?) area where multiple style terms would be equally correct, and it's delicious. Especially love the hops.

A: Poured into a thick clear glass, because I lacked normal glassware. It poured pitch black with a small tan head that disappeared slowly.
S: The hops can be smelled from a distance and the scent is alluring; it is very citrusy and earthy. The hop scent mixes gently with the aroma of the malt.
T: The flavor is intriguing. It is strangely creamy, being that no lactose or anything of the sort was added, that is invaded by the hop bitterness. The malt flavor of the stout is gentle but the hops are more dominating.
M: The brew is gently carbonated and very full bodied,.
O: This was a wonderful blend of stout and hop. The smell is so aromatic and gorgeous; by far one of the best scents I have experienced from this brewery. This is one good stout!
