Part II of Dark Ale V, a smoked black IPA.
Poured into tulip; opaque jet black with a fizzy dark brown head that fluffs up with large bubbles and then fades into a topping of bubbles that remains indefinitely.
Smell is heavy smoke, dark chocolate, roasted malt, something sweet...chocolate again? Or some sort of dark fruit, I can't quite make it out. Smell is finished out with piney and lesser tropical fruit hops.
Taste is bittersweet roasted malt, followed up by a thick wave of smokey deliciousness. Then some coffee comes in, finishing with bitterness from the malt, smoke, and hops, along with the pine and slight fruit of the hops.
Mouthfeel is medium-full and smooth.
Overall, another excellent black IPA from North Brewery. I've loved every one of the Dark Ale series, and these smoked ones are especially delicious. This one runs a bit more on the creamy/sweet side compared to Part I.
