The Saucony Sessions is a hoppy pale ale brewed with Cascade and Centennial Hops. Post fermentation the ale is filtered over fresh grapefruit. The combination of hops and citrus flavors from the grapefruit makes for a brilliantly refreshing pale ale that is very sessionable at only 4% ABV. We package The Saucony Sessions in 12oz cans to make for easy beaching, boating, hiking, biking, camping, lawn mowing, trampolining, recycling…. anywhere you prefer not to have glass.

on draft at the brewery taproom, served in pint tulip glass

fairly clear, light yellow in color, white head. nice fruity hop aroma. taste is fairly bland though, a little bitterness. thinner bodied, the lactose doesn't help much. As with many "session IPAs", a bit underwhelming.

This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a hazy burnt yellow to orange color with a one finger foamy white head that dissipates within a quick minute leaving a rocky messy speckling of lacing. The smell had a sharp bitter lemon rind followed by a slight grassy hops. The taste was mainly bitter through the lemon rind and left a lingering dry bitter aftertaste. There’s no finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. That’s if one wants to drink a super dry APA. Overall, I say this was an okay session APA. It’s not exactly balanced as I was hoping. Might have again depending upon what else is served.

DATE TASTED: May 29, 2015... GLASSWARE: Barley Creek pint... OCCASION: just returned from Relay for Life... APPEARANCE: thick, soupy pale yellow body that defies you to look through it; thick, rocky white heads sloughs off to rocky crags; lacing is fortified and attractive--this beer looks fresh... AROMA: lemon, melon and some dough balance the aroma, with a tinge of floral bouquet late....PALATE: medium-bodied, rather smooth and balanced, with little at the teeth and the same at the throat; average carbonation; reasonably bitter finish--pleasant and sessionable, as advertised...TASTE: mild lemon and melon at first; hoppier on the tongue as the beer drains; a nice, bitter draw at the finish rounds out the profile appealingly--though as the brewery confesses, this beer does not pack the punch of an IPA... OVERALL: as part of the breakpack leftovers I scored at Hope Liquors, I enjoyed this unfamiliar brew--safe to say I have never, nor would likely ever, run into this brewery unless it was handed to me; a pale ale that has some hints of complexity, but maintains its gift of accessibility and smoothness throughout the experience--at 4% ABV, how can this not be a winner in its unassuming presence?

The aroma is enough to keep me away. Smell's like scraping fish into a sink. Everything else is below average.

I picked this up at The Friendly Greek Bottle Shop recently and since I am steering clear of big beers so far today and The CANQuest (tm) needs a bump, this seemed like a good place to start.

I Crack!ed the CAN open and CANmenced an inverted Glug that threatened to flow over the sides of the glass until I backed off. This produced three-plus fingers of foamy, rocky, bone-white head that quickly began to fall, leaving decent lacing in its wake. Color was a cloudy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Once the head had fallen enough to make space, I CANpleted the pour. Nose had a grapefruit-citrus scent. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was generally grapefruit-citrus hoppy, but the problem (for me) with these session beers is that the taste generally does not live up to the nose. I understand aroma vs. bittering hops, but I always feel let down by these beers. This was no exception. I just CAN't get behind the CANcept of "session" APAs and AIPAs. Sorry. Finish was cool, semi-dry and pleasant, but without the Oooomph! that I really want and need as a hophead.

I like it, not as tasty as Hop Suplex. But the grapefruit aftertaste is good. A very drinkable beer. Good job.

Great hops for an IPA with no bitterness. However, the beer is good but not memorable. Love the can it came in.

One day I'd like to blind taste Stone, Carton, 21st Amendment, Founders, and this beer to see how people pick them because when it comes to the 4.5% IPA - they are a close pack.

I give this beer a 4 for being a flavorful, true session APA with plenty of bite, bitter, and complexity.

A: Pours a very hazy light amber with plenty of carbonation. It pours into a tulip with a finger of head and leaves lots of dotty, almost soapy lacing.
S: Plentiful aromas of grapefruit, which dominates, then... herbal hops and pine resin, stronger as the beer warms. Pleasantly hoppy.
T: Follows smell but the grapefruit rind kicks in stronger and longer. More complexity and a good finish of bitterness. A nice sweet malt underlayer, but citrus hops win.
M: It is light-bodied, moderate carbonation, clean. Good food beer. Great session beer.
O: Extremely flavorful. Great brewer.

Tasted OK -- had this the Friday after Thanksgiving from a can at World of Beer in Arlington, VA. Like many session IPAs, it has a thin hop profile that is the price of low ABV. Nothing special about this really.
