Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Stonefly IPA has been refreshed with the addition of Citra Hops and introduction of a new dry-hopping process we call Alle Zeit Hopfen. A new dry-hopping contraption we custom built called HopfenKubel that we designed to slowly release dry-hops continuously for 48 hours into the fermentation tank. This will allow more surface contact time with the hops and beer fully maximizing the aroma and flavors from the hops. The addition of Citra Hops deliver a spicy, floral, strong citrus and tropical tone of grapefruit, melon, lime, gooseberry, passion fruit and lychee. Stonefly IPA will continue to support the efforts of the Schuylkill Action Network and donate a portion of proceeds to the Berks Watershed Restoration Fund to protect the source waters and health of the Schuylkill River watershed.

The first one I opened blew up all over the place the second it was popped...It was not mistreated on my watch. Anyway, after cleaning up the mess I might be a bit biased. Rumor of strong citrus and floral aroma with lots of citrus flavors but that does not exist in this one. Maybe this was an old batch, hence the blow up.
Overall there is nothing that stands out here, just a middle of the road IPA. I do appreciate the effort to support restoration of a watershed which would make me more inclined to go back if I was local, but unfortunately its nothing I will actively seek out going forward.

12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass.

A--Golden, orange & hazy. Nice white head that left nice lacing.

S--Hoppy & piney, like an IPA should be.

T--Piney & fruity. Nice & hoppy, minimal maltiness.

M--Creamy. plenty of carbonation, not too dry at the end.

O--A good enough IPA. Nothing special, but nothing to turn down either.

Murky orangish yellow in color. Poured with a short white foam with medium low retention. Medium, fresh, earthy, spicy and minty hop aromas with medium light malt aromas beneath. Medium bodied with soft, pleasant, medium carbonation. A light creamy feel from the middle to the end. Spicy and minty hop flavors up front followed by medium high spicy hop bitterness through the middle. light minty flavor toward the finish followed by a dry lightly bitter finish. A well balanced, easy drinking, hoppy , spicy, IPA.

Saucony Creek Stonefly IPA has a medium, white head, some lacing, and an orange (milky orange, once the caked sediment is swished and poured), fiercely bubbly appearance. The aroma is a bit odd- slightly turned fruit, apricot, and white bread. Taste is better- tropical fruits, sweet, white bread, sugar, and moderate, mellow hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium, and Saucony Creek Stonefly IPA finishes semi dry and pleasant.
