Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Stonefly IPA has been refreshed with the addition of Citra Hops and introduction of a new dry-hopping process we call Alle Zeit Hopfen. A new dry-hopping contraption we custom built called HopfenKubel that we designed to slowly release dry-hops continuously for 48 hours into the fermentation tank. This will allow more surface contact time with the hops and beer fully maximizing the aroma and flavors from the hops. The addition of Citra Hops deliver a spicy, floral, strong citrus and tropical tone of grapefruit, melon, lime, gooseberry, passion fruit and lychee. Stonefly IPA will continue to support the efforts of the Schuylkill Action Network and donate a portion of proceeds to the Berks Watershed Restoration Fund to protect the source waters and health of the Schuylkill River watershed.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains floral hops, fruity citrus and light caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with a burst of grassy hops bitterness. Then some mildly sweet flavors of citrus and a caramel come in. The malt character is on the thin side and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, it’s a decent IPA but there plenty of others in the style that I would pick first.

Cloudy, darker gold color. Decent bar poured head which leaves some streaks of lace.

The nose started with cream and weedy smelling hop.

A straight up IPA. The malt begins the taste with a bit of white-bread toast. It lasts until the swallow when the black pepper hop bitterness kicks in. Long lasting aftertaste. High carbonation with a moderate body.

Poured into a pint glass from 12 oz bottle.
Golden orange in color with medium whit head.
Good citrus smell with hints of hops, not over powering of either.
Get a good amount of orange and lemon taste. Might be lacking a little on the finish. Very nice balance and VERY easily drinkablele.

Poured a cloudy orange with a thick foamy white head. Good retention leaves small soapy lacing. The aroma is floral and fruity, with a nice malty bread quality to it. The taste is mostly malt with ajust a non-descript bitter note on the finish. The body is light with a light carbonation.

12 oz bottle. Hazy pale gold, finger white head slowly dissipates leaving plenty if lace. Bready malt aroma with some tropical fruit notes. The up front taste is a malty sweetness with orange citrus. The hops come in late, grapefruit peel and pine, turns to a wood sinless that stay on the palate waaaay after the swallow. Semi dry finish with a medium soft mouthfeel. Overall decent ipa with good balance, hops linger too long for me.

A: cloudy; burnt orange in color; 1 finger ivory head that receded to an uneven cap; OK lacing;

S: pineapple with pine in the background;

T: combination of orange, ripe pineapple, and pine; by the finish, it's mostly tropical fruit; mild bitterness at the end; drinks more like a DIPA - sweeter than I would expect with a regular IPA;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation;

O: nice, but I would have liked a bit more bitterness;

look: 4.5 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Appearance: Pours a cloudy honey color; the head is very impressive, sticks like a champ and leaves plenty of lacing

Smell: Minty and slightly tropical, with a cracker malt aspect

Taste: Quite minty, up front, with a growing bitterness that builds above the cracker and nutty malt tones; surprising level of bitterness lingers in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A somewhat odd combination of flavors here; certainly different, but it didn't win me over

Poured 12oz bottle into snifter glass. 6.8% abv

Appearance- Pours an apricot orange color that has a glow to it. Twho finger head that hangs around. Very cloudy.

Smell- Strong fresh aroma of grapefruit and orange peel. Light toasted malt aroma also lingers.

Taste- A light, dry crackery bread taste with a touch of caramel quickly progesses into a citrus forward blast of flavor. The grapefruit really picks up midway in the flavor profile. Next come heavy pine flavors that go into a lasting bitter hop finish.

Mouthfeel- Medium heavy in body. Dry finish. Well carbonated.

Overall- I was surprised by the freshness and big taste of this beer. Impressed by this hop bomb, as it was my first Saucony Creek offering. Keeping up with the PA brewing greatness. Aside from the freshness, the appearance was of a top notch IPA. Plus it says on the label that proceeds go towards locla stream restoration, so that is awesome. Very well done IPA to be had here.
