Pennsylvania, United States | website

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Stonefly IPA has been refreshed with the addition of Citra Hops and introduction of a new dry-hopping process we call Alle Zeit Hopfen. A new dry-hopping contraption we custom built called HopfenKubel that we designed to slowly release dry-hops continuously for 48 hours into the fermentation tank. This will allow more surface contact time with the hops and beer fully maximizing the aroma and flavors from the hops. The addition of Citra Hops deliver a spicy, floral, strong citrus and tropical tone of grapefruit, melon, lime, gooseberry, passion fruit and lychee. Stonefly IPA will continue to support the efforts of the Schuylkill Action Network and donate a portion of proceeds to the Berks Watershed Restoration Fund to protect the source waters and health of the Schuylkill River watershed.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a poco grande glass.

A-Pretty hazy amber-orange body, nice 1 1/2 finger head. Nice amount of lacing left in the glass from the beginning to the end.

S-Grapefruit, lemon, pine, some maltiness. Some earthy aromas are definitely there too.

T/M-Bitter hop on the front end then followed with a bready malt finish. A little too much carbonation which doesn't really allow the flavors to come out. Not as hoppy as a West Coast IPA, a decent East Coast interpretation, imo.

O-A good IPA from a local brewery that is putting out some solid beers. When this beer sells a portion of the money is donated to a local charity to help protect and restore the Schuylkill River and its sources.

On tap at Romas Restaurant in downtown Pottsville PA.

Bought to the table in one of those pint glasses with ads all over it, which made it difficlut to judge the appearance. Appeared to be somewhat cloudy, with a thin head. Head did maintain to the end however, and there was some lacing, again difficult to judge due tothe glass (I realize that this is out of SC's control)

Smell gave off a good strong whiff on hops.

Taste was very good, which I confess was a bit surprising since I've never given SC much credit. Full hops flavor in the entire mouth. Did leave just a bit of an odd unpleasant taste right in the back of the mouth. However this did not linger, and did not much hinder my enjoyment of this beer.

Mouth was above medium, very slightly syrupy.

Overall, a good beer to have with my wings. Nice and hoppy. I see it's only a limited one time release. Pity, I'd like to have this again. Oh, well, back to Romas later i guess.

Poured clean with a light white head.

Aroma of citrus hops and mild malt.

A well balanced IPA that presented the hop bitterness without crushing the palate. Good overall body and presentation of malt. Enjoyable IPA that raised the desire for another. Nice job Matt.

Pours a thin creamy off white colored head, with brief retention and good lace, cloudy (yeast?)

The arome has some light hops followed by distinct malt, with a nice toasty/grainy quality. The malt is too dominating which is a shame as there is some hops here

Medium crisp entry on the palate, with medium bitter hops, followed by distinct malt, toasty and grainy as in the nose, ale yeast
The body is full, with a fine carbonation and light to medium sweetness

The finish is long of bitter hops and predominate malt. The hop oils linger long, with the malt hanging on to the end

Overall a good IPA, somewhate out of balance as the malt dominates the hops.
Best at 45-50 degrees
