Notes / Commercial Description:
In the autumn of 1720, Captain Jack Rachman and his pirate-mates were celebrating their victories in typical hard-drinking tradition. Suddenly a British Navy sloop surprised them. The drunken pirates hid below deck, leaving Captain Jack’s mistresses Anne Bonney and Mary Read to defend the ship. The women shared a reputation as “fierce hell cats,” but the British Navy eventually overtook the pirate ship. Captain Jack and the pirates were sentenced to hang. Anne visited her lover in his cell before his execution, and instead of loving words her scathing comments live on throughout history, “Had you fought like a man, you need not have been hang’d like a dog.” Their legacy inspired us to brew an equally ferocious Imperial Pumpkin Ale brewed with pirate rum spices. We added a touch of autumn flavor with roasted butternut squash and natural maple syrup.

Smells great... but too sweet and too much spice. Had great body... and nice tan head.

Very good pumpkin ale. Poured into a pint glass. Clear bright orange color with a big slightly off-white head. Head retention is very good and there is thick lacing on the glass.

Aroma starts off with strong pumpkin spices. As the beer warms, the pumpkin/butternut squash and maple syrup are more apparent.

Taste is very good. So many pumpkin ales with a strong spice presence also include a weak, malty beer as the backbone. Gives the potpourri effect which is pretty annoying. This beer has a flavorful presence with the pumpkin and butternut squash and the maple syrup. The strong spice presence enhances an already rich beer rather than overpowers it.

Mouthfeel is rich and smooth. This is one of the better Pumpkin Ales out there.

THIS IS A BUTTERNUT SQUASH BEER (ala CARTON RAV), and as such, it's in the top tier for squash / pumpkin beers. Along with Carton and Elysian. Butternut squash appears to be a superior add-in than Pumpkin. I dread getting too many pumpkin repeats in my craft packs, but I'd love to get more of this!

Poured from bottle into a Leffe chalice glass.

A – Deep orange rusty color with a multi finger fizzy cream colored head. Modest retention and a little lace.

S – Massive Squash and maple syrup, along with pie spice, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. featured is caramel and a big sweet maple syrup smell. One of the best

T – This is dessert beer. However, it was tasty with dinner too. Great with cheeses. Follows the smell with maple dominant, caramel and squash followed by the spice cabinet. Tea like finish, with lingering (good) spice.

F – The body is thicker, creamier than most. A dessert beer, but never cloying. A meditation beer. Better than other heavy beers. ABV well hidden.

O – Definitely try if you get the chance.

Bottle shared by Curran last night.

This one pours an orangish-amber, with a small half inch head, and a little bit of lacing.

This smells really strongly of squash, which I unfortunately don't like all that much, so I'm not digging it. Don't really get a whole lot of maple here, but I do get cinnamon and vanilla.

Like the aroma, this is quite a squash bomb. It's definitely nice to get a different take on this style, but it just doesn't work for me, it tastes like liquid squash, with cinnamon and vanilla. I get a slight hint of maple, but it's not that strong for me.

This is medium bodied, with a creamy but grainy mouthfeel, and a lower level of carbonation.

This didn't work for me, but someone who likes squash might dig it a bit more.
