Based on the previous reviews, I think it's easy to be mislead a bit about this place. I liked the vibe of this place as well, but my guess is this place isn't for everyone. NWIPA is very low key and laid back, and it was smaller than I was expecting (despite the fairly large, open area in the back). Also, while they have a fairly decent size bottle selection (it's not in the same category as Belmont Station or Beer Mongers, and was more along the lines of what you would encounter at Arch Bridge), their normal tap selection numbers just six. The day I was here, that included things like RR supplication and Lagunitas Born Yesterday, so quality is pretty good, but even so... for Portland I thought the tap selection pretty limited.

Service was very good and the guys running this place know their stuff. They also seemed pretty helpful when it came to making shopping recommendations, which I thought was pretty impressive. They were also pretty generous providing samples as well. So no worries about the quality of the service here.

Didn't try the food, so can't really comment on that.

While this is certainly a solid place, I'm not sure why I would want to come here, if I wasn't living nearby. It's easy to find places with a superior tap and bottle selection in Portland, and the only reason I stopped in the other day was because NWIPA was on my way home from the Horse Brass. Shrug.

Edit from 2/26/17. Not a whole lot to add since the prior review, though I have tried the food (got the cheese and meat plate - quite good). One thing I would add, is that these guys really seem to be on the cutting edge when it comes to getting new to the area IPA's, and various "one offs." Even though there are only 6 tap handles, invariably they manage to have one or two things on offer that I want to try. Service continues to be the real draw here (consistently friendly, well informed and quick), and it's one of the reasons I find myself coming back over and over and over again. Shrug. Lot of good places in PDX. This is definitely one more.

This bar is really cool. Its a great idea for a bar, They've always had a few beers worth having. Its a very low key chill/hangout vibe. Everyone that works there has always been super nice and chill. Their triple IPA fest is amazing.. They had so many great beers on. Somehow they always seem to have Melvin or getting it? Not sure how they do that, but i like it.

Too many people sleeping on this place....Jackson and his crew have turned this into a real destination with their killer events and great food at outstanding prices.

Glassware and the taps are super clean - the beers are always very fresh, and bottles/cans to go as well.

That's why this place rocks (and the vinyl helps too)
