Purchased from the brewery recently, coming in a 330ml slim brown bottle, bottle-conditioned; bottled on 19/02/2013, BB 19/02/2014, served lightly-chilled in Gulden Draak’s short-stemmed tulip-shaped sniffer.
A: pours a murky, dark black tea-ish colour, coming with a huge and tight creamy beige head with superb retention, on top of an unknown level of carbonation.
S: light acidity as of oxidised plums, apples and oranges as well as brown prunes comes on top of caramely malts, but as far as funks go they are pretty restrained here. Given a good swirl, the assertive aroma like a mix of orangey hops and amber malts emerges from underneath the thick froth, along with more sweet prunes, ripe melons and rather intensive floral esters.
T: refreshingly effervescent but not too fizzy, the foretaste is not like the same brewery’s other Saisons as an intriguing input of burned caramel notes and an unique edge of esters so much more common to Belgian amber ales are everywhere on the palate, mingling well with the slightly more acidic notes (due to the work of the farmhouse yeasts I suppose), licorice powder, a semi-sweet but light-bodied maltiness, sweet prunes, brown sugar, etc. Finishing lightly acidic fruity, dry-ish and semi-chewy in the end.
M&O: this is by far the most unusual and most successfully bottle-conditioned beer I’ve had from the Partizan brewery; it seems a few months of maturation in the bottle has paid off, delivering a pleasant and sufficiently attenuated cross-style brew that is not just refreshing AND creamy enough to be a quaffable drink, but also reasonably complex to keep the palates hooked throughout the drink.

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a Fullers snifter glass. Bottled 19th Feb '13.
Pours a murky light brown colour with a white head.
Smells fruity and hoppy - like my pomegranate washing up liquid, oddly.
Tastes overall very balanced, between some sweet malts, fruity hops, and yeasty spice. Not a lot of carbonation working in my favour making it seem a bit lifeless, but incredibly smooth and drinkable.
Overall a great beer.
