330ml bottle bought from The Vineyard, Belfast

Poured a deep dark ruby brown... Creamy tan head poured fairly thickly then faded to thin layer.... decent light lacing

Aroma - Nice strong chocolate maltiness, good roastiness, caramel and toasted bread, light dusty notes, lots of fruitiness (plums, figs, some blackcurrents), faint liquorice notes, spicy, nice peppery hop bitterness...

Taste - Definite chocolate notes, roasted malts, quite earthy, light coffee, light nutty and caramel sweetness, fruity (blackcurrents, plums), peppery, strong eartiness, nice spicy hop bitterness...

Feel - Pretty smooth.. Medium bodied. At 6.4 % a dangerously quaffable and sessionable ale...

Overall - An excellent example of a dark mild and another fine brew from Partizan... recommended

A syrupy cola black that reluctantly gives up a dense sepia collar.
Raisin, licorice, wood fire, and treacle tart on the nose, opening into purple plums.
Ash, baking chocolate, espresso grounds, black currant with a roasty hit and cedar chip and pine sap hops.
Welch's finish and dry, roasty bitter linger.
Medium, very soft and round, good chew, no heat.

So... how is this not a stout? The things that distinguish a stout from a mild, to me, are at least two of these: 1) low ABV 2) no roast 3) no hops. Ergo, this falls down on all counts. A lovely, creamy, easy sipping beer with the right kind of grapey fruit that also hides its heat, and so mimics a mild for drinkability, but not really what I want from the style.
