A dark copper-brown color with a proper off-white layer of suds lining the top and leaving a nice trail of lacing. The aroma offers vinegar malt and brown sugar with leafy hop edges. Not bad for the style. The flavor follows the introductory smell with tart apple cider vinegar and caramel brown bread with a grassy hop bite. It's medium bodied at best and sports a lively, tingly carbonation that keeps the feel pretty peppery. Not bad.

Tasty, balanced toward malty, bitterness is very limited.

Pours clear, amber in color with 1/4 inch head. Taste is chocolate, meadow, and toffee. Light bodied, sweet slight bitterness. Above average and tasty, but not a beer to rush out for. Solid example of the style.

While not technically flawed, just nothing going on here. Very muted flavor.

American Ale starts off promising, with a surprisingly dark reddish amber color and a decent light cream head.

Aroma hints at caramel grains and neutral, earthy hops.

Unfortunately, like their IPA, the taste is undeniably tinged with diacetyl. Caramel grains and citrus and pine hops begin to assert themselves before the buttery taint rudely introduces itself. Several sips in, and this venture is abandoned as yet another "could have been."

This is a solid offering from Thimble Island. Not overly complex, but has plenty of caramel sweetness and just enough carbonation to keep it refreshing. This is a good beer to introduce to someone who wants malt flavor but isn't a fan of the bitter hoppiness they might associate with "craft beer".

Appearance - Dark copper color, poured with about 1/2 inch head, dissipated relatively quickly.

Smell - A bit of a bread-y nose, perhaps even a bit of smokiness.

Taste - Malty up front, slightly sweet, maybe even a little bit smokey up front, finishes nicely on the back end with the slightest hop kick. Well balanced flavor.

Mouthfeel - Great carbonation, relatively light body, but doesn't feel thin at all.

Overall - A solid offering I would definitely purchase again. I've heard great things about their IPAs, and hope to try them in a bottle or can in the near future.
