22oz bomber poured in a tulip. Smells like chocolate, dark malts. Tastes of chocolate, cinnamon, dark roasted malts and horchata. Nice smooth, creamy mouthfeel. This is an overall sweet and decent imperial stout.

Smell is mostly sweet horchata. Some molasses.
Taste is sweet horchata with molasses. Some coffee bitterness.
Mouthfeel is full with adequete carbonation. Finish is sweet and lightly dry.
Overall a tasty brew if you like sweet stouts.

Pours black with a finger of khaki head foaming on top. Fair head retention with a few strands of lacing left behind. Aroma is lactose, and cocoa with roasted and toasted malts. Flavor profile is a smooth, flowing show of lactose, cocoa, and vanilla bean notes. Roasted and toasted malts add a supportive flavor to the horchata flavor profile. Mouth feel is smooth, and creamy, with a medium-thick filling. Overall, an incredibly smooth stout that doesn't batter the tongue with flavors. It drinks smooth and easy, and yet still provides a wonderful display of flavors. Well done.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 22oz bottle.

22oz bottle served in stout glass. Beer pours black with red hues and forms a large amount of milk chocolate colored foam. Aroma of cinnamon and Mexican chocolate, some vanilla. Flavor brings forward milk flavors and an unbelievably creamy texture. Whereas the nose was more of a straightforward stout with spices, in the mouth this really is like drinking horchata. It brings directly the flavor of milk, cinnamon, and rice. And to my delight, it does this while tasting slightly sweet (ok, more than slightly) and without any evidence of alcohol. An impressive feat for an Imperial Stout that purports 9% alc/vol. Candy.

A very nice 2 finger light tan head that has good retention. The head is creamy and foamy with some lacing on the glass. The beer is dark brown and opaque. Some carbonation bubble visible on the sides of the glass.

N: Coffee, chocolate, cinnamon, milk, roasted dark malts,, yeast, earthy, wood, and some vanilla,

T: coffee, chocolate, rice, cinnamon, nuts, dark roasted malt, yeast, earthy, vanilla, wood, vanilla, and molasses.

M: A very nice but subtle carbonation, chewy, coating, and full bodied beer.

Overall: This beer is just something different. It taste just like it says, the horchata flavor really push through the dark imperial stout. The imperial stout itself is not too bad. Overall a good offering.

Look: pours dark brown and looks black in the glass.
Smell: The smell is rice, cinnamon, a hint of vanilla, and chocolate.
Taste: sweet horchata, some chocolate, and cinnamon. There is some very
slight bitterness from the malts. This smells just like The Bruery's Or Xata beer.
Feel: It is a medium feel, not too thick.
Overall: This is a good stout, for what it is. This is not something I would buy regularly.
I prefer Russian Imperial Stouts without the gimmicks..

Bro anything Belching Beaver is on point! This one is so random but great for that beer drinker that is looking for a little twist to their diet. I loved it. I can't describe it because I'm not drinking it at this very moment but I do recall it being pretty damn good. I'm currently drinking Speedway Stout and it will make all your r's i's and your mo's so's. It is a hallucinogenic wild card... Just saying.

On-tap at THG. Snifter.

A: Super dark brown chocolate color with a dense dark tan head.
S: Tons of cinnamon, slight chocolate. Creamy as well, does indeed smell a bit like horchata but with a bit more roast. Creamy cinnamon nose overall.
T: Follows the nose with flavors of roasty horchata with a hint of chocolate. Cinnamon, creamy vanilla, light chocolate bitterness.
M: Super creamy, rich, and thick body like a milkshake creaminess with very soft and fluffy carbonation. Drinks well. Lingering amount of cinnamon in the finish but not overly spicy.
O: Very enjoyable but strong flavors. A rich yet very smooth sipper. Alcohol is hidden very well, no trace. Very smooth. No harsh booze or hot flavors, not overly rich or bitter. Has an abraxis/mole flavor but without the spice.

A - Dark cola body, but it's still with poor retention and no lace on a loosely bubbled head.

S - Rootbeer, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

T - Cola, cinnamon, vanilla, cream, hazelnuts, Nutella, black tea leaves.

M - I really didn't like the mouthfeel on this. It's almost still, with a thin cola syrup body.

O - The flavor profile and nose are pretty on point for what they were going for, but the rest of the beer comes up short.

Really exited about his one. Recently had the Peanut Butter Milk Stout from Belching Beaver and loved it (the smell is fantastic on that one). So, Ive been saying for ages that there needs to more cinnamon in stouts and ... Horchata! ofc... the flavors just work.

22oz. Bomber poured into a tulip glass. No date but I talked to the store owner and its probably 6-8 months old.

Look - Beautiful dark opaque body with a 1 Inch light tan head that leaves a little lacing.

Smell - is fantastic. This one really gets better as it warms up. You can really smell the cinnamon up front, then the chocolate and coffee. Its funny I actually smell horchata then a stout under it. nice.

Taste - its funny cuz it smells like horchata with a stout underneath but tastes like a stout with horchata underneath. I really enjoy the chocolate flavor and how its complemented by the cinnamon . I will say that there is a bit of heat. Nothing that wouldnt round out with age. I'll definitely be getting another and aging it. Should be fantastic.

Feel - Medium bodied. Really goes down with a velvety texture. I personally enjoy the thicker the better, but this one isnt bad. I definitely wouldnt call it too thin.

Overall - I really like it. The flavors really work well together. IMHO this one needs a year or two to round out the heat from the abv. Though I like my beers up there in abv so its not bad. If ur gonna drink this one fairly fresh my advice is to open it after another beer or two, let this one warm up and enjoy. Cheers.

22oz bottle with my Barrelhouse Brewco Snifter glass
Noted on 12/20/2014

A: Dark cola black with some brunette tones around the edges. Looks to be fairly thick with no light penetrating through the body whatsoever. A dense layer of mocha tan suds forms over top holding true for a few lengthy minutes before settling down to a ring. Some slippery streaks and dots of lace paint the glass sides on the way down.

S: Smell is sweet and rich with some dark coffee roast and blackened grains noted. I pick up on some cinnamon, nutmeg, and dark chocolate with a coconut like sweetness to it. Nice overall stout aromas. Doesn’t have me really thinking of an Horchata per say but I guess all the components are there.

T: Taste is rich and sweet with milky chocolate, toasted coconut, and mild coffee notes. Intro some subtle spice additions of cinnamon and nutmeg. Nothing really over the top. More of a lightly spiced stout than anything. Has an earthy bitterness towards the backend and bit of a lighter feel to it helping the session along. Not bad but not really making any impressions.

M: The body is a touch thin and watered down at times. Keeps a nice cream like consistency most of the way through. Lightly peppered bitterness to it and a drying finish. Slightly sleek after feel.

D: Not the greatest Impy Stout but pretty fun to check out. On the sweet side...lactose maybe? I think the base stout here is just okay. Lacks a bit in body and depth . Ultimately I wish there was more actual Horchata flavor to this.

I have met Crazy Ivan. He was crazy.

What a strange brew.

Pours black, very light bodied. No head whatsoever and no lacing. Very fizzy on the pour. Looks like soda. Weird.

Smell is, like other reviews, very strong on vanilla and cinnamon, with nutmeg lingering in the background. Some hints of chocolate in there as well.

Mouth feel is very light bodied, I would have loved this to be a big bodied stout, but this just felt lacking and disappointing to me. Taste is a bit boozy with some slight creaminess of milk chocolate and vanilla, with cinnamon notes lingering but overall taking a ride in the back seat. Very sweet brew. A little too much.

A little disappointed in this one but it isn't terrible. Worth a try I'd say, would do good with some aging. Meh.

A: Not quite motor oil in a glass. Pours a coca cola like head, with about the same amount of retention. Fizy looking. Very little in the way of lacing. Pretty ugly looking beer.

S: Big notes of vanilla sweetnes, chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg.

T: Sweet. Definitely has the lactose component. Does taste like horchata. Rice milk sweetness, sugar, cinnamon, chocolate, some vanilla. Finish finally picks up the roasted quality of the grain, with milk chocolate, some darkened fruit and may a touch of baker's cocoa on the finish. Hints of semi sweet coffee in the aftertaste, along with a residual sweetness.

M: Flat in the mouth. Undercarbonated, and the carbonation given from this beer gives it that slight seltzer zing. The body of the beer weighs it down, but it this lacks creaminess and body.

O: I am dissapoint. Has good flavors but lacks in nuance and balance. Also, that mouthfeel is pretty bad for a beer of this abv.

L: Served at 55° from bomber. Opaque pour, with a color that falls somewhere between onyx and eerie on the spectrum of blackness. Minimal foamy (think soapy but not overly so) head deep beige or khaki in color which fades quickly and leaves scant lacing along the chalice from which it was imbibed.

S: Nose contains notes of cinnamon, notes of sweet chocolate, milk chocolate, sweet milk chocolate notes chocolate notes, chocolate box notes, notes of licorice, horchata, roasted coffee, roasted malts, malted coffee, coffee malts, spice notes, lactose, lactaid, lactic acid, raisin, plum, plum skins, sugar, and notes of graham cracker and notes of molasses. Glucose? Maybe?

T: Taste is cloyingly sweet, like acetone cotton candy and coffee and milk chocolate and sweetened condensed milk and horchata. Lots of notes of cinnamon and licorice. Incense and peppermints.

F: Tons of notes here. Mouthfeels of notes. Smooth yet complex. Medium-bodied, slightly crisp and slightly dry but wet and sweet and sticky. Alcohol warmth on the back-end. Shellacking my tastebuds.

O: Definitely a dessert beer! It wasn't undrinkable but it was a slow and deliberate sipper. Would be enjoyed more with savory food compliments than more sweetness. Like maybe a s'more with the graham cracker and marshmallow but NO MORE CHOCOLATE AM I RIGHT!?

L: Really nothing to write home about on this one in the looks department. Pours a deep opaque color, like an obsidian. Very light tan head that dissipates almost as quickly as you pour it. Tons of carbonation bubbles litter the pint glass. Almost no lace when sipped.

S: Aromatic to say the least. Vanilla and cinnamon hit the nose right away. Also some subtle hints of chocolate with a hint of oak.

T: The taste is phenomenal. Very spicy cinnamon and oaky booze flavor up front that settles into this very unique blend of chocolate, cinnamon and the unmistakable creamy flavor of horchata. What's nice about the horchata flavor is that it's not overpowering like some sort of gimmick. It is blended in well and it works with the existing decadent flavors of an imperial stout. That oaky cinnamon chocolate aftertaste hangs with you well into the next sip also.

F: Heavy, chewy, sharply carbonate and overall a very drinkable beer. This thing kicks you right in the teeth though.

O: Outstanding. The blend of flavors is remarkable. Outside of the very bland pour (which may be just a fluke on this pint or a young bottle) this is an A+ beer. The horchata flavor is used in a way that compliments the traditional flavors of an imperial stout. It isn't gimmicky ala blue moon, and that is very important here when going for a beer like this. Have had a few of their stouts now and the have yet to disappoint. This though, this is on another level. Not only does it capture the great flavors of an Imperial, it adds a great element with the subtle horchata flavor.

Appearance: Pours into the glass like black chocolate milk. Decent tan head that quickly disappears; very little lacing. Noticeable carbonation hiding within the depths.

Smell: Cinnamon, cocoa, roasted malts.

Taste: Cinnamon, chocolate, coffee, and other roasted malts.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied (despite the low viscosity), creamy, with a hint of chocolate bitterness in the finish.

The Verdict: Good beer. From the same people who gave us the surprisingly well done Peanut Butter Milk Stout. This time they present the odd combination of beer and that delicious rice, vanilla, and cinnamon drink from south of the border. Once again, they deliver. Subtle, balanced, and tasty seems to be Belching Beaver's style.

I find this beer quite nice. It lives like a middle sister, in the shadow of her overachieving big sister Peanut Butter stout. However, this young Latina should not be overlooked. She offers a sweet and almost aromatic smell and taste that I find to be an excellent, South of the border style change of pace. Hints of cinnamon and subtle sweetness that shines through nicely. I enjoy this beer quite a lot. I love that it is 9% too. Give her a shot and you won't be let down.

While this is an enjoyable beer I feel it is much closer to a milk stout than an imperial stout. The cinnamon is pretty noticeable and could be a little more subtle, and kind of ruins the mouthfeel towards the end (think a mini cinnamon challenge).

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. A foamy curtain of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, vanilla bean, coffee bean, and slight cinnamon aromas. Taste is much the same with sweet cocoa, vanilla bean, and cinnamon stick flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast and earth bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with nice vanilla and cinnamon characteristics that come through especially well in the taste.

Look - Dark brown body with a mocha head.
Smell - Roasted malts, some milk chocolate, cinnamon, alcohol, milk sweetness.
Taste - This tastes like the smell, but much sweeter than I thought. Like a horchata drink with a good combo of what is in the smell. The spice mix is nice, cinnamon...nutmeg...
Feel - Smooth. Nice, dense carbonation covers the inside of the mouth.
Overall - For me, this is better than Xocoveza. Not as complex, but sweeter and smoother. This is a nice treat, good balance. I'm glad I have another bottle. If you like Horchata, you should like this.

Pours opaque black. The 1/2 inch tan head remains as a thin film and thick ring on top and leaves shimmering curtains of lace.

The smell is of roasted malt, fresh brewed coffee, vanilla and faint cinnamon.

The taste is of roasted dark malt, coffee, cinnamon, sweet cream and milk chocolate.

The texture is heavy bodied with low carbonation.

An interesting take on the traditional rice milk beverage. A solid effort but, I feel this could benefit from a more assertive cinnamon presence.
