I was really surprised by the complex flavors. Getting notes of pine and coconut. I get hints of juniper in the aroma. Completely unexpected and a very smooth and easy drink.

On-tap served in a snifter at Hair of the Dog, Bangkok.

Mildly hazed deep amber orange as a showcase, it tops with thick silky white head that stays with quite good retention before gradually sinking to a long-lasting bubble sheet atop and leaving numerous of sticky and refined lacing wave.

The aroma is led by floral, tropical, pineapple, grapefruit, some roasted coconut, kaffir lime, some spice, and bready, biscuity yet slight caramel malt.

Not that so juicy or fruity, led by roasted sweet coconut and roasted malt, the rest is like the aroma with roasted coconut dominated as well as some spice. The end and aftertaste is wrapped up and lasting with some hop bitterness and residual roasted coconut.

Medium body with good crispness and lively carbonation through the palate, quite smooth mouthfeel, the feeling is refreshing with a dry finish.

It is led by fruity and tropical liveliness before sweet roasted coconut taking over the palate and nose once the beer get settled. A Unique IPA.

22oz bottle served in an Imperial Nonic glass
From notes - 11/09/15

This one took me by surprise. I was expecting another failed novelty brew injection of your latest fruit/flavor adjunct type of production but I must say this one is well done and worth checking out. Pours a hazy golden yellow color with a tall standing white head that has some solid retention efforts and leaves behind a tone of sticky lacing as it settles. Looks as if it were pineapple juice even.
Has a real nice tropical hop aromas with notes of fresh squeezed pineapple coming through and a hint of coconut oil. Picking up on some fruity hops of peach and guava too. Smells sugary but not detecting much in the way of any malt character. Really nice and fruit forward with a big hit of caramelized pineapple and fresh coconut meat. Has an overall sweetness but not cloyingly so with a mid-palate hop bitterness kicking in. Carries on further with notes of citrus zest, mango, and some stemmy pine. The finish brings on more of that sweet pineapple and coconut on the linger.

Can’t believe they actually pulled this one off really. I was no fan of Pineapple Sculpin so expectations were low but this here is a tropical hop smoothie.

Picked up a bomber from BevMo Bell Road on 10-8-16 for $6.49. No visible bottling date but this was relatively fresh as this was one of several releases made within a week of purchase.

Beer poured golden with a beautiful white head that is leaving lacing behind.

Nose is citrus forward, very nice.

Taste is citrus with some pith finishing coconut colada.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and refreshing.

Overall a pretty solid beer with the different twist with the colada that is worthy of a shot.

Poured from a 22-ounce bottle, dated 7/12/16, a clear pale yellow under a 2-inch thick white head which leaves splotchy lace. Aromas of pineapple and tropical fruits, trace coconut. Flavor is very muted, not much. Perhaps an "old" bottle, but finishes slightly dry with some dankness. Just O.K. as a basic IPA.

Poured into a pint glass. Hazy bright yellow color with a frothy white head.Decent retention as well. Unsure how old the bottle was, but reasonable pineapple aromas. Faint coconut and tropical notes, with some white bread and dough. The taste was as billed, with a prominent sweet coconut and pineapple. Moderately bitter with a clean finish. A fun beer for sure.

On draft. Fairly light orange almost pineapple color. Ha. Actually decently fine lacing going down.

Very little out of the smell.

Decent mouthfeel, carbonated, bright.

Taste? On theower side IBU wise so don't get big bitter flavors. Get some tropical notes which I would expect. Pineapple is hard to detect but I wouldn't want it to overpower anyway.

Overall this would be a half decent sit on the deck on a hot day refreshing style but not a great big IPA.

Reviewed from Notes:

L: looks like a standard filtered IPA, minimal lacing.
S: Smelled much stronger than it was.
T: Expected a west coast IPA with pineapple and tropical flavors, got a run of the mill "meh" IPA, almost no pineapple could be detected.
F: Mouth-feel was underwhelming, barely even there.

O: Got the beer as an extra in a trade, doubt i would ever buy it again, not when there are so many better examples of west coast IPA's out there.

Honestly I was pretty upset with this. I was expecting a volcano of flavor like the Peanut Butter Milk Stout. I couldn't be anymore wrong. Really didn't get those pineapple and colada flavors I was hoping for. Just another IPA.

Coconut shines on each sip, but pineapple is hard to taste. Easy to drink and still resembles an ipa with a marked bitterness and body. Might not get again unless they make a mai tai ipa.

Bottle poured into a BarrelHouse Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours slightly hazy golden yellow with a big pillow-y off white head that settles a little to a thick dense layer and leaves sizable globs of lacing.

S: Tropical, coconut, pineapple, citrus, pine, and some caramel sweetness,

T: Coconut jumps out first, then citrus, lemon, a bit grassy, maybe some pine, mild pineapple comes out more as it warms, crackery malt, and a little light caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Overall not bad. The coconut seems a bit over the top. I wish the pineapple came out more in the taste and the lemon/pine thing was just a bit more restrained. It grows on me as it warms but still just ok.

Impressive four-finger head. This settles slowly, leaving ample spots along the glass. Cloudy gold color.

The smell is of floral hop with a touch of pineapple. It reminds me of a fragrant soap. It's appealing in a novelty sort of way.

The taste is more traditional with rich malt start and a forward bittering hop finish. The pineapple is still there but it's far more subtle--the aftertaste is brings it out the most. Nearly sweet. The carbonation is soft which enhances the full body..

I was expecting a hop forward IPA with some pineapple flavors but this was a malty sweet thick syrupy IPA. Which is strange, maybe it was the specific bottle that I purchased but this beer didn't turn out as advertised by friends and some suggestions.

Maybe I have to try it on tap or something but Yeah... Super thick, super sweet, Not my normal taste for an IPA. Not a terrible beer but not worth buying again from my experince.

Still searching for my Pineapple IPA....
Sculpin pineapple just released from Ballast Point...that might be my last hope for a good pineapple IPA
Edit: way to many artificial pineapple flavors in the Sculpin
Still hunting...

22oz bottle poured into a tulip glass

A- pours a hazy golden orange color with a thick and creamy white head that has nice retention and leaves some lacing behind as it settles

S- definitely picking up a pina colada-like aroma that intermingles with some nice tropical hop aromas and gives notes of pineapple, coconut, peach & guava. Definitely as advertised

T- surprisingly, flavor is as advertised as well. Big hit of pineapple and coconut husk up front adds a nice sweetness. Mid-palate allows some hop bitterness to kick in with notes of citrus, pineapple, mango, pine. The finish brings on more sweet pineapple and coconut on the linger

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that resemble a pina colada texture and continues into the finish

O- a hopped up pina colada! really enjoyed this one and would welcome this regularly in the summer if it were available to me

Cloudy gold color in the glass with a nice head that leaves some lacing. Smells like pineapple and pine with citrus. The taste is very reminiscent of a pina colada with the coconut showing up. Finishes piney and bitter. This is a pretty tasty take on a fruity IPA.

This is an interesting beer. You can taste the pineapple and pina colada taste, but it is there more as a hint to remind you of it as opposed to make you feel like you're drinking a pina colada. You don't forget that you're drinking a beer so it is well balanced. You won't regret giving it a try.

Poured from bomber into pub pint glass

A- pours a clear pale golden color with a somewhat thin yet tall soapy head with some lacing that leaves a thin white cap

S- very strong coconut, some pineapple (your typical tropical drink smell) with floral notes

T- very intense piña Coloda as the name suggests with a touch of bitterness

M- thin, with little to no carbonation burn

O- not a bad beer, not a great beer. It's good if you want to change things up but still have an IPA. I think I would buy it again, just not right away.

lots of citrus and piña colada smell. Taste is fruity and doesn't overpower the hops. They complement each other well. Mouthfeel Is close to perfect for an ipa. Really liked and impressed with this. I bet an old one wouldn't be so good.

Look: golden straw, murky goodness, 2+ fingers of white head.

Smell: a bit thin, but the coconut comes through, as does the pineapple and citrus.

Taste: this is where this beer shines - the coconut is present, but the pineapple kicks it in the rear, and the hops follow with citrusy flavors. Very refreshing.

Feel: a little dry, but the coconut gives it a milky quality. Very cool.

Overall: full disclosure - I absolutely DO NOT LIKE coconut, so I approached this beer with some trepidation, but the name pushed me over the edge. I had to buy it. And I'm glad I did. The coconut is not obtrusive, and actually helps balance the pineapple and citrus flavors. On a not-too-hot Minnesota evening, this was a GREAT quencher. Well done by Belching Beaver.

Pours a murky honey orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Tiny particles of sediment are seen floating around in the beer after the pour. Smell is of coconut, pinapple, and citrus fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest, berry, pineapple, and coconut flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with distinct pina colada qualities that work well with the IPA base.

Serving type: bottle.
