Deftones Phantom Bride IPADeftones Phantom Bride IPA
Notes: Named after the ethereal song by the one and only Deftones, Phantom Bride IPA is a blend of Amarillo, Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops delicately balanced for the perfectly drinkable mix of citrus and hoppy goodness. A truly original Deftones/Belching Beaver Collaboration envisioned by Chino Moreno and skillfully crafted by Thomas Peters. Sit back, put on your headphones and drink away.

(Six pint cans dated 7/29/19; I consumed four of them): the first time I tried this, I was puzzled as there were some great flavors but found it off-putting. But the second, third and fourth cans (enjoyed on consecutive days a week later) were a much different story. I quite like this brew, and hope to find it to enjoy again, soon.
A nice, hazy golden color, decent head and nice lacing. The aroma is incredible: citrusy and floral. The first sip is enjoyable, hoppy and ohh so tasty. Then the deeper drink? A potpourri of flavors in my mouth. I noted the complex citrus and floral flavors mentioned earlier, and a more balanced hop profile than it appeared on first sip. The mouthfeel? Medium body, moderate carbonation. Overall, this is actually quite a good IPA (as perhaps the four cans I consumed suggest. ;) ). If you can find it, get it. You won't regret it.

Appearance: Cloudy and honey colored, the pour results in a rather modest cap though there is a jiggly pattern of lacing across the glass

Smell: Tough to pull the aromatics here, though there is clearly a tropical element; kiwi, berry and guava, perhaps

Taste: What was difficult to detect in the aroma comes through much better on the taste buds as the kiwi and berry tones launch with the guava building through the middle; very restrained bitterness here, with some graham cracker adding sweetness to the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Very enjoyable but still, a bit of a wuss when it comes to the bitterness factor

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a lightly hazy, golden amber with a fine two finger white head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of pale malt, citrus and dank hops, orange and guava. Flavor is pale, slightly caramel malt, citrus and piney hops with some dank notes, light orange, grapefruit and lemon citrus, guava and mango. Finishes with lightly resinous pine and citrus hops that seem a little subdued but leave a nice lingering bitterness that subsides with a return of light caramel. Medium bodied with light creaminess and mouth feel. A good balanced IPA with an interesting flavor progression with more citrus and dankness in the start, then revealing light tropical fruit before finishing with lingering hop bitterness and more malt flavors. More dank than I expected from the can description, "mix of citrus and hoppy goodness", but an interesting hop bill that is a bit muddled but satisfying. Well done.

Hazy light apricot gold with a frothy white head, leaving dots and streaks of lacing.
Citrus rind on the nose and palate. A little tropical. A little herbal. A little bit of sweetness. Fairly well balanced.
Medium carbonation and very smooth mouthfeel. Nice semi-dry slightly bitter finish.
A solid IPA. Excellent artwork on the bottle.

Canned 1/8/18, consumed 2/4/18

Poured hazy golden straw with a small head that left really solid lacing.

Aroma is bright juicy hops with a little bit of floral and pine notes. Very enticing.

Taste is zesty citrus, some tropical fruit, a little smooth malt, and a very little bit of dank and floral at the end.

Mouthfeel is light-medium, soft, low bitterness, clean and dry.

Overall an above average hazy IPA that's usually priced really nicely in 16oz. can 6-packs. Definitely try it if you see it, could easily be a go-to regular IPA if low bitterness is your style.

Smells a bit fruity, has a nice taste but kinda dry after taste. 16oz but over I like it kinda compares to blue moon a bit.

Fantastic IPA from a brewery I hadn’t heard of before. Darker yellow color with some fluffy slowly-dissipating white head and a little spotty lingering lacing. Smells nice, fruity and piney hops with a little malt. Just a little dank funkiness. Tastes similarly, very good balance between hop bitterness and malt sweetness. Also some caramel and vanilla in there. Just a small bitter bite at the end, very nice and refreshing and almost juicy to the point where it reminded me of a New England-style IPA. Smooth mild mouthfeel with great carbonation. Very sessionable and yet full of flavor.

This is my favorite beer...right now.

I love the marriage between a West Coast and NE IPA. I realize those are just subjective terms, but to me this ale does the following:

-provides a bitter ale with a strong sense of juiciness without becoming a total “juice bomb”

-there’s a funkiness to the otherwise tropical citrus explosion

To top it all of I pay about $2.20 a pint can for this so it’s relatively cheap and the can is so easy.

Hazy, citrus plus funky dankiness = a huge winner. For me one of all my all time favorite ales.

Pours a very pale gold with thin white head....looks more like a light lager than a 7.1% ipa

Nose is earthy, tropical, and dank....pretty interesting

Sweet tropical fruits....summer peach, still woodsy

Smooth, silky, but has a kind of weird chalky aftertaste. Very drinkable though...

Very interesting beer....doesn’t smell like it looks, doesn’t really taste how it smells. But the more I drink it, the more I like it.

Totally forgettable. Very little aroma, no initial bitterness, minimal flavor, and the orange finish left me with an odd aftertaste. There are some excellent hazy IPAs from California but for me, this is not one of them.

This is a gateway IPA. Give this to your friends to get them into craft.
It seems gimmicky so I was weary but pleasantly surprised. Very juicy yet balanced beer.

16oz can was nearly flat. Smells nice, tastes nice, but drinking flat beer is not nice.

I like the can artwork, great use of color. I'm a Deftones fan btw. The pour is orange with a slight haze look to it but not quite like a New England Style IPA. This is an IPA with a lot of character although there is hop in here that is standing out & i'm not the biggest fan of this particular hop when it's the main attraction of the show. It has this earthy vegetal type of taste to it, an onion & garlic bite. It's a good IPA that can be even better with a tweak here & there. The beer could use a fruity hop character. The Deftones collaboration & can artwork is saving it. Cheers! B

L: Gold with a very slight haze under a 2" off white cap with good retention.

S: rich, citrusy, dank grass, earthy hop aromas, trace onion.

T: Rich, complex juicy citrus flavors over biscuit malt seasoned by a moderate bitterness.

F: very creamy, medium plus body, very soft carbonation.

O: The beer's texture is outstanding as is its flavor and drinkability.

Pours a slight hazed light yellow color with a white head. Smell is citrus with floral hops. Taste has citrus and some tropical notes with an earth dankness. Lower carbonation and a non bitter mouth feel not sticky sweet. Twas allright nothing i would buy at retail thou.
