2017 vintage 16 oz can. Part of a trade with flat_lander. thank you.
Drinking at cellar temp poured into a snifter.
The beer label is a tribute to the brewer's son, a nice touch.
The beer pours a dark cola brown color with almost no light passing through the beer. A creamy tan head foams up about 1 cm and fades to a sticky edge layer and a few curling wisps of bubbles on the surface.
The aroma is heavy with bourbon notes, very boozy nose with some dark fruit mixing in too. Big nose makes me think this will be a sipper.
First sip confirms that thought. Very thick body almost chewy, and leaves a sticky coating across my palate after each sip. Carbonation is gentle, spacious and soft, almost like a cask. This is a perfect beer for sitting in front of a fire.
Flavor is some roasted malt and a lot of rich bourbon. I get some sweet vanilla and brown sugar with a bit of charred wood and some dark fruit, raisins I think. Fairly complex flavor profile, hops no where to be found and the booze heat is well hidden. The physical pieces of this beer make it a sipper, but the booze is hidden pretty well but I can feel it a little by the end of the glass.
This is a very nice thick barrel aged stout. Im glad to have tried it and slightly jealous of the folks who can get this yearly release regularly.
Enjoy!

Black with chestnut highlights, drippy arc of lace across the glass.
Sweet chocolatey aroma, pure liquid chocolate pretty much.
Taste has a little bit of bitter roast to round things out, malted milk balls and chocolate syrup figure in also. Full bodied and chewy, fairly rich. Overall it's nice in small doses.

My old neighbor from Oswego gave me a can of this.....and it is da bomb! It poured an opaque dark with thin tan head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had dark fruit and chocolate with bourbon appeal. The taste was smooth and delicious with chocolate and bourbon with dark fruit balance. The mouthfeel is medium in body with smooth carbonation . Overall its a solid stout.

It pours a dark brown to Black with a very thin, creamy Mocha head that collects around the edges. No carbonation.
Smells of powder dark chocolate, slight spice and vanilla. Just a slight smell of barrel.
Taste follows the nose in which the powdered dark chocolate comes to the front and sticks around long. The chocolate blends well with the bourbon barrel. Vanilla at mid palate. Slight dark fruit and charred wood.
Thick mouthfeel.
This is a wonderful BBA Russian Stout!

In succession: Sweet, full, dark chocolate, oak and smoke, vanilla, and a deceptively small amount of booze on the finish given the high alcohol content. All around a fantastic and robust barrel aged stout for those seeking a very full bodied beer filled with flavor on a night they want to sip.

From can. Deep dark brown-black appearance with good bit of foam head upon pour. Big bourbon and chocolate nose. Dark roasty flavors. Bit of chocolate, bit of oak. Boozy. Medium mouthfeel. Very good beer.

This is a fantastic example of a BA stout. Nothing extremely unique or different about it- just one of the best attempts at it I've tasted (and I've tasted plenty).

Specifically, the taste is fairly close to a Central Waters BBS, or a Wild Onion Drago, but clearly a hair better than both. I'd blame that on the extra thickness / texture of a 10.6% stout vs. a 9.5%. Heavily barrel-forward. Thick, smooth, sweet. Maybe also a little bit better balanced than other similar BA stouts- it seem to last on my tongue for the perfect amount of time; not too biiter / quickly fading, but not too sticky.
