Notes: Zipline Brewing Co.’s Copper Alt. is an altbier, which is a unique German hybrid between an ale and a lager. This bronzed brew is designed to be extremely drinkable, with subtle nuances of chocolate and hazelnut. A late gift of Sterling hops in this brew leaves a little hoppiness for your palate to ponder before the next sip.

Hops: Magnum, Hallertau & Sterling
Malts: Pilsner, Carahell, Special B, Caramel, & Carafa

Very clear, medium brown / dark ruby color with minimal lacing appearance. I was surprised by the name "Alt", as this is pretty much a traditional brown ale with little hop presence. Perhaps Alt yeast was used, but this is not a traditional German Alt. Nice malt flavor with big caramel taste, bready smell, and slight lingering sweetness (just short of cloying). Well made, malt forward beer.

Sampled back on 10/1/13. Chilled down to 36 degrees in my beer cooler and poured into a pilsner glass.

Pours a pretty copper brown color like ice tea, that has a super small tan head. leaves good lacing when sipped though. The aroma is like a typical brown ale which is sweet malts and spice. The taste was very pleasant with hints of caramel with a very light hint of chocolate. Perfect carbonation.

This is the 2nd brew from this new local (1 hours drive) brewery that was really good.

I grew up during the perfect beer time... high school in San Diego in the late 90's during the rise of Stone, Alesmith, Pizza Port, and of course Ballast Point. I have yet to find a Nebraska brewery with constantly good beers. Thus far, Zipline has fullfilled my request! The copper alt is right on for the style. Just a great drinking beer for a cold (or warm) Friday evening after a long day of work. I've purchased at least four different six-packs over the past 6 months and each batch (different bottling times) has been perfectly carbonated with a robust and long-lasting head. The color is near perfect for the style - something I hope to reproduce in an upcoming homebrew. The hop presence is also true to the style and the only boring thing I find with this ale. Coupled with a fair price, relative to the high cost of sub-par local Neb & Iowa craftbrews, this copper alt will be common in my fridge.

Copper Alt pours a honey-copper color, 40% opaque, and a 1 finger head. Lace is left beautifully on the sides of the glass.

Aromas of roast malt, chocolate shavings, banana peel, and squirts of ripe tomato. Could stand to be louder.

The flavor is a wrestling match of hop and malt, and ends up being hop forward with a nice smooth bottom of malt. Lots of grain, some fruity esters - banana, strawberry, orange peel, and a finish of smooth caramel and faint cocoa.

Feel is proper with plenty of carbonation to help the medium bodied feel glide down easy. A semi-dry finish completes this beer.

Overall it's a pretty decent altbier and something I'd be open to trying again. I didn't get the chocolate and hazelnut described on the label, but the rest of the flavors almost make up for it.
