Style: Baltic Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.10%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
A superb vanilla porter, an ale which is surprisingly light bodied for its robust flavor and has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavors you would expect in a porter but with a special vanilla twist at the end. We use the worlds finest hand selected vanilla beans in our recipe. The malty and vanilla sweetness are perfectly balanced with hoppy bitterness.

Great looking, but getting it to settle down after an explosive pour was a bit of a challenge. Thick white, frothy head on top a solidly black beer with light only peeking through the edges of the glass, providing a dull brown. Nose was only bourbon. Nothing else could escape the bourbon-ness......even with strong agitation. Taste along the same lines as bourbon dominated until a bit of tartness presented itself. As the beer warmed up , there was an odd plastic taste that heralded in some coffee on the backend, but not really enough to balance the entire experience. Not a lot of aftertaste, but what was there was the coffee bitterness in an otherwise thin for the style beer.

Just bought this one on a recommendation from a friend, not sure why it's listed as retired...
L- Black as hell, very little light escapes this one, light, condensed head that dissipated quickly
S- Heavy with aromas of resin, dark cherry and latent Bourbon
T- Roasted nuts with a beautiful balance between the sweetness on the vanilla and latent heat and bite of Bourbon.
F- smooth, slightly heavy/chewy without being overwheld
O- Astounded by how much I like this beer, Double Barley thrilla in vanilla was my fav in this category, but this one blows it away, much easier to drink!
