This beer poured out with a huge ivory head that was tightly built over a hazy apricot colored body. The head tended to depart rather quickly, but it left behind great lace deposits from the filmy residue head. A very good looking beer. The nose seemed to build as the head lowered and the beer warmed. Mostly it gave off scents of malt and yeasty breadiness from the medium bodied brew. Very creamy and mild. The taste is mostly sweet malt with some light graininess. Also some grassy notes. Finishes somewhat tart and has a long aftertaste that is bitter in the front.

The beer poured a hazy golden color that produced a very nice, fluffy, white head that was retained very well and settled into a thin cap that lasted throughout the beer. Excellent presentation.

The beer produced a nice grainy aroma with a nice compliment of yeast. Pretty much as expected, but I was hoping for a slightly stronger aroma.

The taste of the beer is excellent; a grainy taste with a slight hop bitterness and some of the yeast baked in as well, but the beer leaves a nice grainy/sweet aftertaste. There was nothing in this beer that was overpowering, just a good solid taste.

The beer had a medium body to it, with a clean, crisp feel, which made the beer extremely easy to drink. Overall, this is a world-glass beer and one that I will enjoy often.

1pt, .9fl oz brown bottle. no date found.

pale golden straw, almost clear. some head, but fades to wispy layer. nice lacing.

aroma of toasty malts and noble hops. hint of white grape or yeasty esters.

similarly malty and toasted flavors with classic noble hops. gentle to moderate bitterness. clean finish with flash of more malt and even a trace of acidity beforehand.

light, but smooth. moderate, spritzy carbonation.

paler than i've come to expect of alts, but manages to retain quite a lot of malt character.

Poured to golden color, with very thin white head and no lacing. Aroma of sour fruit, hops and I actually thought I detected wheat. Taste somewhat sour fruit, warmed to a little more flavor, with bitter palate. An OK beer, but nothing special enough to convince me to start drinking organics on a regular basis..

Heady, over-ripe, mushy bartlett pear fragrances are obvious from arm's reach. The color is orange, yellow and bronze with a substantial, cream-colored head. Tons of fermenting pear fruit to this beer complete with seeds and doughy, wheaty, dried herb-infused slate nuances.
The texture is rich, with vanilla and chai notes sprinkled across an improbably dry frame of soft wood, orange candy, ginger and cream. Wow! Olivier Humbrecht-like skill here. Stubborn greatness. This beer takes no prisoners and doesn't stand criticism well. Utterly uncompromising.
My first Alt was a brand called "Hannen," which was better than Ganter products, but second choice to anything by Rothaus. Hannen was mocha-flavored, thin-bodied and brown. This is better and 180 degrees different.

A: very cloudy, hazy. Color is a dirty, ruddy dark gold/bronze. Small thin diminishing head. Doesn't look like an alt, and worse, is not pretty to look at.
S: if I didn't know better id think I was smelling a hefeweizen. Very yeasty w/bananas and spicy cloves-or butterscotch? Just weird and seems off.
T: medium sweet bready malts and again tastes kinda like a hefeweizen. Manages to finish almost dry despite an almost undetectable hop presence.
M: thin and a bit watery. Could use more frothiness and fullness.
O: not at all like any alt I've had and just not good, to my taste.

This is an unusual beer.

I don't have a Stange glass, so I first tried a hefeweizen glass. I later switched to an imperial pint glass which worked well.

The beer poured a yellow-orange color, with a 4F head. Very nice looking beer.

The aroma was sweet clove with some fruit, different than in other German beers I have tasted.

The mouth feel is moderate.

The taste is unusual. Deep fruit, mostly pear, slightly different than other wheat beers. There was an off-taste to the fruit- actually quite good, but unlike other fruit tastes in German wheat beers.

excellent finish: slightly bitter with maltiness as it warms up.

In general, very different. The combination of a different fruit, sweet clove, and maltiness make an excellent beer. Worth seeking out.

Hazy, dark wheat colored beer with moderately active carbonation. Creamy, bright white head is on the small side and leaves a bit of stringy lace. Pale malt and faint hop aromas are quickly overtaken by a zesty lemon aroma. The taste is a little closer to what I was expecting. Soft, mild malty flavor up front followed my some spicy hops, but the tanginess makes it's way in towards the finish. From what I've read on this style and the altbiers I've sampled this one was way lighter in color then I expected and about half the malt I was expecting in the aroma and flavor.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Fluffy white head on a slightly hazy golden body. Head retention and lacing is a little light.

Smell: Sweet and grainy pale malts with some grassy/herbal hops.

Taste: Pale malts, good hop flavors, mild bitterness.

This beer is much more simple than I was expecting. Kinda reminds me of a kolsch.

500ml

Pours a transparent yellow orange color with a thin white head. Sweet malts, grainy and lightly toasted, although slightly muted, the floral hop character creates the aromatics of a large pilsner. Crisp and bright in flavor, great balance. A little thin on body, bubbly, but very refreshing. Sure its not true to style 100% per say but a damn good beer, especially now in the summer time.

.5L, Germany, best by Oct. 2011.

Pours a clear, light gold with a fizzy head. Decent retention; tiny bit of lacing.

Aroma is interesting for the style. Lots of tangy, ripe fruit -- almost like a wheat beer -- and a good dose of biscuits and grain.

Pinkus Original is brewed to the "Alt" style, but it's completely different from Düsseldorfer Alt, which is more of a brown ale. The flavor is lightly tart and grainy, almost like an amalgamation of Exportbier, Weissbier and Kölsch. Let me explain: this interesting brew combines the grainy maltiness of an Export, the fruity tartness of a old-style Weisse, and the German "aleness," if you will, of a Kölsch. Tangy hop character adds some depth and bitterness. The mouthfeel is light and soda-like, but with relatively creamy carbonation. Finish was a tad too grainy.

At first I wasn't too keen on this stuff (probably because I was expecting a typical Alt) but then I realized how unique and drinkable it is. Unlike any other German ale I've sampled.

Pours a hazy straw yellow with a thin, white head. Smell is grainy and wheaty. Taste is also wheaty, very tart, with a large citrus flavor as well. Very little bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium, slightly prickly carbonation. Pretty drinkable though, I would drink this again. I think this is the first Altbier I've had, its OK, but I suspect there may be better examples out there.

Gonna give this one a good score for looks even though it looks nothing like Alts I have had or made. Beautiful clear gold, with a huge hat of white, fine bubbled foam atop.

Flowery perfume, lightly tart yeast, biscuity breadiness, and a hint of citrus for an aroma unlike any Alt I have tasted or read about, but it is a nice, medium strength bouquet.

Tasty beer with more in common with helles lager than Alt, but enjoyable none the less. All the flavors of the nose, with the floral notes less pronounced, the tart and bread more pronounced, and a finish that features a bit of spice to go with the citrus

Very light in mouth, so out of style it is comical. Highly carbed, nice linger, okay finish.

Not really getting the Alt designation on the label, this is more helles than Alt, even if it did use top fermenting yeast. Not recommended.

a - poured a three-fingers thick, fizzy white head into a weizen glass that settles into a thick ring that lasts about halfway through and is gone, never to be seen again. the body has a light haze and is the color of yellow straw. it looks almost thin and lifeless, very dull.
s - acidic and sour like lemons with a little malt graininess.
t - yeast and citrus pervade the front and the finish is very sweet and malty.
m - slick and oily and very thin.
d - forgettable brew, i'm glad i didn't have to pay for this. i'm not too familiar w/ this style but i wasn't impressed w/ this though it did have some good qualities.
