Appearance is more cloudy and hazy than I am used to in pils. May have poured too hard? Head was huge and but it dissipated rather quickly. Left some nice lacing.

Smell was sweet. Caught some floral hops and citrus. More “Kolsh-like” in aroma.

Taste was wasn’t what I expected. Sweet malt and cereals. Some chalkiness. Some grassy notes really lingered long after on my tongue—almost disappeared and then came back stronger after a few seconds after the sip. Aftertaste wasn’t altogether pleasing.

Kind of unremarkable but not bad. The sweetness made it a more robust Pils. No bite at all to speak of. Not as clean (tasting or looking) but that may be what they were going for. Either the bottle was not fresh of the unfiltered style was just not my cup of tea.

Presentation - Brown 500ml bottle shown in the photo at the top of the page

Appearance - Light brown, slightly yellow. Pours a thin head which disappeared disappointingly quickly, leaving very little lacing

Smell - Fruity (apple), spicy, and bitter.

Taste Slightly Bitter with a sweeter apple finish. Spicy notes are a bit overpowering in the onset and throughout.

Mouthfeel - Light, crispy, and highly carbonated.

Drinkability - I'd have another if I had bought more. Pretty tasty, actually.

Notes - I might not have gotten the most authentic taste of this brew as I remembered to disrupt the yeast only after I had poured nearly the whole glass. I'd like to re-review this beer at a later date and pour the whole thing after setting the yeast in motion. The biggest shame though is that

Had this on 2011-01-16 in Columbia, PA

A - Slightly hazy, straw color with a big 3-finger head with large bubbles that fade quickly.

S - Lemon, biscut, yeast. Smells very nice.

T - Big, lightly roasted grain, lemon, mild noble hops bitterness a nice sourness on the finish that clears the pallet for the next sip. There's some lingering lemon that is quite nice.

M - Light-medium body, medium-high carbonation. Mildly creamy, light and finishes crisp.

D - Very sessionable. I like the way the lemon shines in this brew. Good for a summer day in place of a wheat beer. A very good pils and quite different than a Pilsner Urquell.

Notes: It isn't my favorite style but for this style, it is really well done. My wife really likes this style and particularly this particular brew. She's tasting it with me now and would give it an A if it were her review.

From the bottle, it pours a hazy golden color with a nice white head that slowly reduces. In the nose, it is a bit lemony and bready. In the mouth, it is lightly pilsner bitter, with notes of malt. Nice beer.

Brauerei Pinkus Mueller Ur Pils pours a clear deep gold hue with a thick white head. Some lacing down the glass. Aroma consists of malty sweetness with citrusy hops.

Very malty taste, which comes across tasting like honey. Spicy hops slightly bitter in the finish. A light, crisp mouthfeel, but a little sticky on the palate for a pils. Medium body and low carbonation.

This was my first organic beer and a very pleasant surprise. A refreshing beer, and definitely worth a shot.

500ml bottle, at a local university area pub that seems to be getting better and better with their beer fridge offerings.

This beer pours a hazy pale golden straw colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy off-white head, which leaves a few sparse specks of island group lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of sharply crispy bready pale malts, a prominent black pepper aerosol essence, a bit of tame apple skins, and softly earthy and grassy noble hops. The taste is much more of the same - pale crackery, bready grainy malt, a bit of spicy lemon pepper, and subtle earthy, leafy and mildly grassy hops.

The carbonation is middling, with a softly edgy astringency at times, the body medium-light in weight, and so-so smooth. It finishes somewhat off-dry, the fairly crisp graininess sticking it out, complemented by the residual noble hops.

A pleasantly drinkable pilsener, made true to spec, and well rounded between the malt and hop components. Sturdy like German ox, buffalo, yak, or whatever they've got over there.

Single bottle copped from Sparrow Wine and Liquors in Hoboken for $2.99...
Definitely one of the better German Pilsener's I've recently sampled...
Pours a light-golden hue with a minimal head that soon evaporated and deposited a minor amount of lacing around the edge of the serving glass...
Mild, grainy aroma with slight nuances of vanilla thrown into the mix...
Taste definitely had vanilla essences, a creamy, organic pilsener with a good mouthfeel and an excellent level of drinkability... Very crisp and refreshing and loaded with flavors usually undetectable in a standard Pils...
Good stuff...

Purchased 20oz. bottle from Whole Foods downtown; was looking for Pinkus' Munster Alt (which is excellent, by the way) but didn't find it, so I thought I try this. Pours a murky, hefeweizen-like gold - in fact, the only thing that visually distinguishes this from a hefeweizen is the lack of any head or lacing whatsoever. Smell is unmistakably pilsener - clean with some citrus and floral tones from the noble hops complemented malt graininess, nothing too exciting but pleasant nonetheless. Taste is obviously similar, although this is a rather raw example of the style - there is some roughness in the finish that makes this beer less quaffable then it should be. Mouthfeel is fine, with the correct amount of carbonation contributing to an appropriate crispness. However, the unpolished finish deters overall drinkability. I would not choose this over other accomplished examples of the style such as Trumer, Spaten, or Paulaner.

Pours a cloudy, pale golden color with one-finger head which dissipates but leaves a soapy lacing on the glass.
Smells strongly of yeast and grain with a slight lemon kick.
Unfiltered hops, yeast & barley blend together well. Subtle citric overtone with an overall breaded flavor to the brew. Tastes almost like a wheat beer minus the banana spiciness of a hefeweiss.
Goes down very smooth & crisp; maintains carbonation throughout.
Overall a very drinkable beer of the style; nothing too extraordinary but nothing to critique either. The fact it is brewed organically is a plus.

Cloudy yellow, similar to a hefeweizen. Little bit of white head that doesn't last too long. Smell is mostly of the yeast which is much like a mild hefeweizen light spiced smelling yeast. Taste is some spiced yeast, a touch of malt, and almost no bitterness. I guess I prefer my beer non-organic because this isn't doing much for me. This does not taste like a pilsner to me. Tastes more like an American wheat. Not what I was expecting and not something I care for, although it is drinkable. I can't see ever having the opportunity to drink this for free anywhere, so I probably won't be having this beer again. Nothing special

Served in a bottle at Pilsener Haus in Hoboken, NJ

A: Pours a hazy to cloudy pale yellow in color with moderate to heavy amounts of visible carbonation and some lemon yellow highlights. The beer has a half finger tall sudsy white head that reduces to a thin film covering the entire surface of the beer along with a thin to medium thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of bready and cereal grain malts with slightly light aromas of grassy and floral hops.

T: Similar to the smell, upfront this beer has a moderate strength combination of bready and cereal grain malts. After that there is a light amount of grassy and floral hops. A moderate amount of bitterness lingers in the finish of this beer.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Just a hint of dryness in the finish.

O: Easy to drink and enjoyable but not as clean as a lot of other beers in this style (German Pilsener) - likely due to the fact that it seems to be unfiltered.

Pours a slightly hazy yellow gold color with a nice white head that retains for a couple minutes and leaves ok lacing.

Nose is alot of crisp grain and european hops. There is a grassy and old german lager malt profile in there as well.

Seems like it would be a nice pilsner if not for that wierd old dusty malt profile often found in german lagers that are too old. The hop profile is minimal, but still there.

Mouthfeel is a slight bit thicker than it should be. Carbonation is solid though.

Drinkability is pretty decent, would be better if it tasted better, haha.

Overall an ok beer, but i wont be revisiting it with so many other good pilsner options on shelves these days.

Pours a hazy golden yellow with a tangerine tint, and a nice cap of fine bubbled milk white.

It's got some apricot fruitiness and a light pale malt sweetness to go along with some barely noticeable floral and grassy hops. Feels nice, slick lightly fluffy carb to a medium body.

Although my bottle looks pretty new, I think I may have gotten an old one. I will re-review this beer later as this one did not impress me much.

A cloudy gold with a thick white head. The head leaves a great lace and stayed settled on top.
Smells of lemon, malt, and hopps were sweet and strong. Had a better aroma than taste and I was kind of disappointed with that. Taste is strong of hopps and sweet malt. Might be a bit of honey too. I think the after taste was stronger. Mouthfeel and drinkability were good overall but this beer kind of fell flat in the end.

I'm still a bit of a new kid in the pilsener camp, but this was one of my faves thus far. Served in a weizen glass.

A: Deep yellow hue under a fluffy white 3-finger head, slightly opaque.

S: Smooth combination of grass, honey, and a very, very slight citrus aroma. The pale malt and honey aroma dominated.

T: Sweet malty notes hit immediately. The honey flavor comes out strongly, and the hops finish it off nice and dry. Great balance.

M: Medium carbonation, and a full body. This is something I could drink all afternoon on a sunny summer day (or really, any day). The balance is strikingly good, and leaves a wonderful aftertaste.

D: One of the most easily drinkable beers I've had in a while. I could really quaff this stuff for a good long while. American macros, eat your heart out.

pours clear staw yellow with a 2 finger white head that leaves spotted lacing

smell is mostly lemon with grains in the background

taste/mouthfeel - is a nice balance of malts and lemon zest - this beer stings the tongue a bit with active carbonation and leaves a great crisp finish

drinkability - hell yes i wish a had more

overall - i am finding out i enjoy german pils the most because of the lemon/citrus zest

22 oz from the fresh prince of BEL AIR

A - Gold to straw yellow, light head, dissipates ultra-fast.

S - Honey, pears, & sugars. This beer might be slightly acetyl.

T - Honey, pears, sugar, and bittering hops.

M - Slightly acteyl and bitter. Otherwise good.

D - Not my first choice for an organic pilsener, but a good attempt.

This beer poured a hazy, straw yellow with thick white head. The head retention was impressive, and lasted until the last sip. The aroma was mild - some spicy, noble hop aroma but not as much as I expected. The taste was perfect to style - some sweet malt up front followed by some spicy, saaz bitterness. Overall, it was crisp, and slightly lemony, and incredibly drinkable. One of the best imported, german pilseners I've had in the US.
