Appearance: A hazy straw-like color with incredibly good head retention. A bit of sediment can be seen floating around, but it's minimal.

Smell: Bready and yeasty, lemon, subtle spiciness from the hops.

Taste & mouthfeel: Bready and yeasty just like the nose. Medium in body. Dry malt character with a bit of husky grain to it and a hint of lemon zest. Excellent balance here, just enough earthy/herbal hop flavor to add a bit of spice to the finish but it's otherwise very clean.

Notes: Was surprised with this one, it's richer and more complex than most pils, but without compromising drinkability.

500 ml bottle poured into a wiezen glass, Ur Pils is cloudy gold with active streamers forming a large fluffy, white head that slowly settles to tight, creamy skim and leaves nice lace. I like cloudy pale beers, so that's not a detraction for me.

Smell is strong, sweet cereals and lots of diacetyl, like buttered popcorn.

Taste is not very clean, a bit sweet and grassy, but too much diacetyl and sulfer, with a quickly fading finish and lingering alcohol.

Mouthfeel is a bit on the thinner side, but a nice carbonation.

Drinkability is average, not my favorite pils, I like the fuller flavor, but would prefer less fermentation by-products. It really reminds me of another beer that I haven't had in while and can't place, maybe urquell?

Bought this bottle at Sheffield Liquors in Chicago, IL.

Poured a pale golden color with a small white head.

Smells malty but sweet. Smells like a Pilsner. Earthy.

You get the malty taste at first with a slight hop finish. Some bitterness at the end due to the hops.

Light mouthfeel; somewhat watery.

A decent bottle of pilsner. Glad I purchased this on a whim.

Bottle purchased at Table and Vine Liquors in West Springfield, MA.

Appearance: Slightly cloudy due to the unfiltered nature. A golden yellow with a nice quarter-inch thick slightly-frothy head.

Smell: Sweet light malts with a slightly grainy note.

Taste: Similar to the smell; malty and grainy with a slight hop bitterness that sticks in the back of the throat. A little astringent, but not offensively.

Mouthfeel: Crisp but with an agreeable body to it.

Drinkability: No complaints here.

Overall an extremely enjoyable organic pilsner.

Mmmm, certainly smells like a pils - grassy, herbal hops with lightly baked biscuits. The flavor matches with a crisp, dry bitterness, citrus rind, a slight malt sweetness and mineral note. The appearance is a clear, brilliant gold with a thin white head. This is very easy drinking and refreshing, yet full flavored. This is a great example of a German pils. Yum.

This pils pours a nice golden amber with a thick but not persistent head. Aroma is richly malty with a fruity hint. Flavor is fully malty with a whisper of sweetness and a little hop bitterness as a nice counterpoint, as well as some hints of apple. Texture is very smooth, more like a cider than a pilsner, and there is a little hop flavor in the aftertaste.

Pale yellow, a bit hazy, with a big lumpy white head. Aroma of sweet pilsner malts, flowery hops, bread, lemon, and yeast. Sweet grain and crisp hoppy taste...slight mustiness before the bitterness kicks in (which is fairly light). I'd say this pils has more of a yeasty aspect to it than usual, probably due to it being unfiltered. Some grass and honey. Slick and crisp...

Not stunningly great or anything, but nice on a warm March afternoon.

Thick brown glass bottle. 1 pint .9 oz.

Slightly hazy yellow due to not being filtered. 1/4'' white head with small bubbles, leave some lacing down the glass.

Smell is grains, a touch of hops, white bread.

Taste is the bread like malt up front with some hops kicking into balance it out a bit, but not taking over. More complex than most pilsners, but not as hoppy. Again, probably due to being unfiltered.

Mouthfeel is a bit more than what I expected.

Not exactly what you'd expect in a pilsner, but tasty nonetheless.

500mL bottle, no date.
Pours a lightly hazy straw color with a head of large white bubbles. Sweet grainy aroma. Comes through in the flavor as well. A general "perfume" quality. Light body, but the perfume quality gets old towards the end. Not as refreshing as I would like in a pilsner.

Appearance- Pours a semi-clear, straw golden . A decent, loose, white head with good staying power but little lacing.

Smell- Aroma is typical Pils; except slightly sweeter. Lots of malt sweetness, with some notes of honey. Also, has a note of graininess. Of course, there is some aroma hops, but it's hard to identify them.

Taste- Nice blend of malt sweetness, maltiness, and both flavoring and bittering hops. Not a great example of a Pils, but very good tasting all the same.Just a hint of astringency, but it only adds to how interesting this beer is.

Mouthfeel- Medium body and just on the verge of being crisp.. Carbonation is not as high as most Pisners, but it works for this beer.

Drinkability- Not very representative of the style, but quite tasty.

Cloudy yellow, similar to a hefeweizen. Little bit of white head that doesn't last too long. Smell is mostly of the yeast which is much like a mild hefeweizen light spiced smelling yeast. Taste is some spiced yeast, a touch of malt, and almost no bitterness. I guess I prefer my beer non-organic because this isn't doing much for me. This does not taste like a pilsner to me. Tastes more like an American wheat. Not what I was expecting and not something I care for, although it is drinkable. I can't see ever having the opportunity to drink this for free anywhere, so I probably won't be having this beer again. Nothing special

This pours a nice kinda cloudy yellow with a beautiful head. Nice blend of hops and malt and citrus. More like a Hefe than I have noticed in many Pilsners. The finish is very hoppy at first and then sweet. The carbonation and bite is also very strong. This is a very good beer.

Appearance: Strong pour in pint glass reveals a golden crystal clear hue, with dense white head on top. The head recedes rather quickly.

Aroma: Biscuits, bread and light fruit scent dominate the nose. No sign of hops.

Taste: A warm, gentle buiscuit-like flavor which is balnced very well by a refined hop bitterness. Now I taste a bit of hops with the finish, though subtle.

Mouthfeel: Normal carbonation levels, but unlike some pilsners, this one has the body to back up the carbonation. Nice medium body.

Drinkability: High. Definitely a good session beer.

500ml Bottle
Binny's Orland

Pinkus' Organic Up-Pils is an unfiltered pils but pours surprisingly clear. The straw golden liquid is littered with large carbonation bubbles racing to the surface. A half-finger white creamy head appeared on the pour and dropped to half that size within a few seconds. The body looks really good but the head and lacing leave things to be desired.

Aroma is typical pils with one exception. There's a noticeable sweet honey presence that adds to things nicely. Fresh grain makes up the maltiness and there's a mildly spicy floral hop aroma. Smells good and the slight sweetness from the honey adds a nice touch.

The flavor is right on with the smell but the sweetness is a little more than I'd prefer for a pils. The sweetness takes away from the crispness that makes a good pils a good pils.

Medium body and just on the verge of being crisp, unfortunately the crispness is what I look for in a pils. Lively carbonation keeps things moving without turning prickly.

This is a beer you could without a doubt drink a lot of. IT's satisfying and goes down quite easily.

All around this is a decent pilsner from Pinkus. I don't know if I would spend $3.50 on another pint (at home) but I sure wouldn't pass one up if offered.

Pours a cloudy straw with a white head. Nose is a hint towards lemongrass. White grapes. Flavor is light and refreshing with a sweet and soft tang that stays fairly constant while delivering a lot of citrus tones. Feel is pretty decent. Nice bubble on it. Very drinkable. Smooth and even. Just probably not my style or something I would prefer to go for again. For me the lemon flavors come out way too much for it to be a repeat performance.

Standard pilsner.. crispy, fruity, with a dry finish. Good mouthfeel, with just the right amount of carbonation. Found the flavors to be very mild, and it took a lot of sips to really get the full feel of this brew. I don't think the orgainic status made this beer any better or any worse. I just think the beer on the whole is average, and a good, clean, representation of this style. Worth a try.

500 ml bottle.

A - Poured out a cloudy, golden yellow color with a bubbly, white, two-finger head. No lacing at all.

S - It smelled very fruity. Also a good grain aroma and a yeastiness.

T - It tasted very sweet. It had an apple or pear-like flavor. It had a light caramel malt taste, too.

M - It was crisp and fairly smooth. A light-bodied beer.

D - A unique pils. The fruit flavors are unusual but good.

500ml brown bottle, poured into my SA glass.

Cloudy, golden with a 1" white creamy head with fair retention and carbination. Lots of chunks of yeast at the bottom of the bottle.

Fruity,pear-like aromas, dried straw, doughy, clean with faint to moderate aromas.

Malt tastes at first, slightly burnt carmell, butterscotch, fruity, slightly sour. Good balance with a dry grassy clean bittering finish.

Light-bodied,slightly grainy, tangy. Expected more hoppyness, was more maltier than anticipated. Decent beer, nothing special.

Pours a very pale color with a small head. Aroma is somewhat skunky but not too much. I can smell a nice combination of malt and sweetness still. Taste is very much of the same. A nice, smooth malt sweetness that leaves a sweet aftertaste in the back of the throat. It's quite drinkable and goes down well. Light and refreshing and organic as well. Not too bad.

Never heard of this little brewery before today, and I quite enjoyed their UR Pils.

The beer pours an unfilitered straw yellow with a nice, light, white head. Head retention is not great but I had a little throughout my drinking experience.

The beer has a lite sweet Pils aroma with just a hint of hops filtering through. The taste was nice and what you would expect from a German Pils. Though not as good as some of the other German Pils that I have had, I did enjoy this beer and would have no problem drinking it again.

The organic angle is cool too, although with the German Purity Law, you generally don't have to worry about German beers being full of crap.

If you like the style you won't be overjoyed but you won't be disapponted either....Remeber it's the weight of my heart not the size...Prosit!

Poured into a pilsner glass. The color is a pale yellow with cloudiness and ample carbonation. The head is pretty thin, white in color. The aroma was hard to figure at first, but, is a buttery smell that is pretty potent.

The taste is pretty good, but, has minimal hop taste. The mouthfeel is dry, light and refreshing. I think this is a good pilsner and would drink again.

Pours a slightly hazy perfect golden straw color with a fizzy two finger white head. Streams of bubbles rise to the top as if a bunch of fish were at the bottom of the glass. As it sits, dimples form in the fizzy head as if the beer is smiling broadly at me. Nice retention that holds. Toasted grains and biscuit malt notes hit the nose with a hefty blast. Grassyness is in there, but very slight. Fruity hop notes don't show up as much as I thought they would.

Toasted grain flavors give a crispness to the body thats quickly washed away by a heavier biscuit malt and slight caramel notes. Crispness of the body, which was present at first returns and sits well into the finish. Dry in the finish with a biting mouthfeel that prickles the roof of the mouth. There's a touch of butter in the mouth, but it evaporated quit quickly. A nice pils that I'd have again if given the chance. Nothing that blew me away however. Very drinkable session brew.

Cloudy straw yellow. Lots of suspended particulates as well. Bright white head receded quickly to a thin cap.

An almost fruity aroma, no doubt from the malt. Faint spiciness also detected.

Interesting flavour. By that I mean it’s tough to pin down. Very watery initially, than followed by some interesting malt/hop. Then I found it almost went blah/watery again before the malt(mostly)/hop returned in the aftertaste.

Found it was watery and quite fizzy on my palate.

Interesting flavour and look to it, but not sure I’ll run out and buy another. Certainly prefer their Hefe to this.

From the 500ml bottle, no freshness date noted. Probably not as fresh as it should be. Into a pilsner glass, a pale, slightly hazy golden color with a few large bubbles precipitating up. Smallish crown of white foam fades quickly leaving a solid cap and decent lacing. Nose of rich hops, floral and citrus notes in evidence. A bit bready on the nose. Good malt-to-hops balance. Slightly fruity though with a bit of off-flavor, perhaps from age. Slightly bready. Good pilsner flavor character. Mouth is crisp and middle-viscous, going down smoothly. Drinkability is good; it’s tasty and feels good on the palate.

Overall: Not the best pilsner I’ve had, but a good one nevertheless. This example has probably suffered due to age. Worth a try.
