This is a solid German Pils.

Considering Pilsner is a Czech beer first brewed in Plzen by a Bavarian brewer, German "pilsners" are a bit of a misnomer. Personally, I am a huge Czech Pilsner and lager fan.

Most German pilsner-style beers are böring AF. They are plain in color and taste, unmemorable, but they do quench the thirst.

Pinkus Ur-Pils is a very nice exception to this general rule. Very refreshing with quite a bit of character and a gorgeous color.

A solid 5 in my book.

A - Medium gold color with slight haziness and a thin layer of creamy white head resting on top, nice vibrant carbonation.

S - Honey malt with some yeastiness and juniper.

T - Biscuity honey malt base at the start and midway through an earthy bitterness slowly builds for a nicely balanced finish with a lingering earthy, pine bitterness over top of biscuity sweet malt.

M - Medium body with gentle, prickly carbonation.

O - A little on the malty side but nice finishing bitterness to scrub some of the sweetness away.

Different from most Pilsners. Great flavor, but a little thin in the body. Bread comes through, and citrus on the finish. Refreshing for a warm day and more complexity in the flavor than a lot of Pilsners.

Citrus, hops, malt, bread - a little bit of everything. Light. Mediocre - not bad, yet nothing's remarkable.

Appearance: Pours a clear, medium orange color with a moderate white head that fades quickly. A large amount of sediment in the glass. SRM of 7. (3.75)

Aroma: Moderate aromas of pale malts, bread malts, some authentic German bread malts with yeast.

Flavor: Moderate falvors of pale malts, bread malts, bread yeast, some rubbery flavors. Malty bread and yeast to finish.

Feel: Medium to larger bodied for the style. Moderate carbonation. Finish is bready, relatively smooth, and leans malty.

Compared to Paulaner 6/8/22: Pours a darker color. Stronger aromas. More bread malt and bread spice.

Overall: A decent representation of the style here. Slightly larger at 5.2% ABV. Shows that with the full and bready flavor and mouthfeel. Not overly complex. I'm not sure what the organic component really adds to this beer if not to the flavor. The full, bready body reminded me of the Czech Pils. I actually think this was originally from Czechoslovakia. Maybe we should update the style? Certainly, a decent Pils, but there's better ones out there. (Rating: 3.70)
*Would compare to a Czech style next*

11.2oz bottle

Golden-orange and filled with chunks and films. Smells like beer. Crisp and mostly clean, some cookie dough sweetness and plenty of noble hop bitterness, with an earthy and sorta dirty "barnyard" grain finish... pretty good

Appearance:
Generous, fine head that lasts, Yellow-gold with floaties to make it hazy.

Aroma:
Clean, crisp crackery malt and spicy/floral noble hops. Very German.

Flavor:
See Aroma :D ... on the sweet side of the style. Finishes with a nice lingering pleasant malt and hop flavor/bitterness.

Mouthfeel
Light-Medium, feels a bit sugary but not cloying... Nominal CO2, all good.

Overall
I will grab one of these each time I go to Natural Grocers. This is a worthy Pils--organic or not.
