12 oz. can into belgian tulip glass

Very dark brown body with a cola brown hugh closer to the head. About a half-inch of light brown head with a fairly heavy end pour.

Smell is certainly in line with the description on the can - prominent vanilla bean with a hint of heavily milk sugared coffee.

The taste is pleasant. Definitely a simple and straight forward stout with a balanced amount of vanilla and light coffee. Fairly sweet but these mentioned flavors balance agreeably with the roasted malts.

One noteable characteristic for the beer is in the feel - this is probably one of the higher carbonated stouts I've had; I think it really makes the brew unique and memorable.

Overall, an enjoyable brew. The flavors come together nicely and pleasant after-taste with no harsh lingering notes. Carbonation is great and I would recommend this for a lighter tasting stout with a decent punch in alcohol content.

Fresh 12 oz can (canned on date of 27 May 2014).

Large foamy beige head over a dark, clear, nearly opaque brown body. Superior retnetion and lacing.

Feel: creamy and foamy like a good rootbeer float. Medium-full body.

Flavor/aroma: Vanilla is clearer in the aroma but present throughtout tasting. Slightly sweeter than average, but excellent bitter/sweet balance.given the vanilla.

12oz can, part of the six-packs they have recently arrived in, up here in good ol' Alberta.

This beer pours a clear, very dark brown colour, with prominent basal cola highlights, and a near-teeming tower of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly tan head, which leaves some disintegrating iceberg profile lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of lightly toasted caramel malt, bittersweet cocoa powder, earthy and somewhat acrid vanilla beans, a subtle black licorice candy note, some tame dark orchard fruitiness, and very gentle leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, kind of musty vanilla pods, gritty milk chocolate, an ephemeral sense of un-supped artisanal coffee, burnt marshmallows, fading anise spice esters, and more tame earthy, leafy, and slightly perfumed floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is quite light in its easygoing frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and mostly smooth, with perhaps a hint of alcohol ingress taking its minor toll here. It finishes on the near-sweet side, with caramel, chocolate, vanilla, and muddled fruit carrying the day.

Overall, this is certainly a stout that, if you were to imbibe it in the sixer format, would verily put yer lights out. That said, my toddler is sick, so this one serving will have the same effect on my night - lights out, and to a hopefully better morn!

This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice looking black color with a one to two finger white to off white lush playful looking level head. Light clingy lacing sticks nicely. The smell starts with sweet creamy cocoa smooth and clean, and leading into a nice roasty coffee. Light black licorice slides in to balance. Vanilla is really subtle. The taste was a nice sweet sticky cocoa running into the roasty coffee and light vanilla sweetness. There’s a light aftertaste of sweet cocoa with roasty coffee undertones. There’s a quick little sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light allowing the sweetness to be somewhat sticky on my tongue. Overall, I say this was a pretty good milk/sweet stout that I would have again.

Black with one finger of brown head. Rings of lace.
Smell is dark roasted malts with a hint of vanilla.
Taste is very sweet at first with the hops and dark roasted malts start reigning in the sweetness.
Mouthfeel is medium with ample carbonation. Finish is bitter sweet and dry.
Overall a decent local offering for the style. A little bit boozy also. The can had a canned on date 11/07/16 so it was quite fresh.

12oz can poured into tulip.

Pours a deep cola brown with half a finger of creamy brown head that leaves scattered splotches of lace as it recedes.

Smells of singed caramel, creamed coffee, dried vanilla, shaved chocolate and faint black licorice.

Tastes of fresh black coffee, unsweetened cocoa powder, vanilla ice cream, more roasted caramel malt and sugared licorice.

Feels mild and smooth. Medium bodied with frothy carbonation. Finishes dry.

Verdict: Recommended. Doesn't exactly scream of vanilla, but pretty good.

Poured into a Reuben's Brew snifter. Pours a very dark brown, appearing opaque in the glass with a thin light brown head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of sweet dark roasted malt, light chocolate and vanilla. Flavor follows aroma, sweet dark malt, light toastiness, chocolate, hints of coffee; vanilla gives it a mild milk stout profile, finishes with sweet chocolate, malt and a pleasant final grassy hop bitterness that is a nice contrast to the otherwise fairly mellow flavors. Medium bodied with a hint of creaminess. A nice vanilla stout with well balanced flavors and some hops that kick in at the end to keep things interesting. Enjoyable.
