One of the best and 1 of the strongest beers I've had in a long time.

Poured from fridge temp. Pours dark brown with little carbonation. Smell is heavy on caramel - amazing! I'm actually not getting much more than caramel - reminds me of a Werther's. I also get some nutty notes. Taste follows the nose, but honestly isn't as good. I get caramel, but the alcohol is dangerously hidden. It's a bit sweet, and some earthy notes. Definitely nutty. Really good, and amazing for over 15% ABV. Mouthfeel is full and creamy.

330ml bottle poured into tulip 24/2/17

A dark maroon amber, short lived tan foam leaves no lace, wide legs try to form, looks thick and still

s lots of caramel and brown sugar, plums and bruised apple, wet leaves, canned cherries and pineapple, sugar coated raisins, more fruit I can't place, no idea where the 15% is hiding

T great mix of sugars and fruit,, some earthy yeast pops up just adding to the complexity, everything i smells there but meshes together, I'm not convinced this ones over 15% as the booze just isn't there

M thick and syrupy, not many visible bubbles but it softens up, oily inside and sticky on the lips, leafy, earthy finish and still no booze

O I had no idea what to expect from this one and I'll admit I'm pleasantly surprised, lots going on in a big drinkable monster

So mellow this stuff tastes like its got many years behind it already, great random BW that I'm going to be buying more of to sit on..

330ml bottle - yup, these paisanos (I know that's Spanish, so save your letters) really like their high-test contract brews, it would seem.

This beer pours a murky, dark orange-brick brown colour, with two skinny-ass fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat bubbly tan head, which leaves a bit of calving iceberg profile lace around the glass as it slowly ebbs away.

It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, sort of phenolic yeast, muddled Middle Eastern fruity notes (y'know, figs, dates, plums, that kind of thing), some indistinct earthy spiciness, reduced brown sugar syrup, and some subtle leafy, weedy, and certainly perfumed floral hop bitters. The taste is rather sweet caramel malt, a less biscuity toffee character, more mixed and matched black orchard fruitiness, thankfully just musty yeasty notes (under the basement stairs, and all that), a weird edgy spiciness, and more tame leafy, herbal, and floral verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly understated in its plebeian frothiness, the body a solid medium-heavy weight, and generally smooth, just that spicy thing maybe taking things down a notch or so. It finishes still pretty sweet, that big malt boss acting the part.

Overall, this is one well-made big-boy barleywine, nice and flavourful (and actually not too, too sweet), with a superbly integrated, north of 30-proof alcohol measure. Stupidly easy to drink, and a relative bargain for strong European import offerings around here.

All the sickeningly sweet parts of barleywines ramped up to 11

Picked this up at one of the best beer stores ever, Bierhalle Deconinck. Murky amber-orange pour with a one finger creamy white head with decent retention and great lacing. The nose is very malt forward, but not as boozey as you would think for a 15% beer. Lots of caramel and brown sugar along with hints of toffee, herbal hop resin, and subtle dark fruits. The taste mirrors the nose, and once again, the booze is there, but very subdued. Very malt forward with caramel and brown sugar dominating along with hints of herbal hops, grape skins, molasses, tangerine, and a nice vinous character. The mouthfeel is subtly creamy and medium bodied with great balance and huge drinkability, especially considering the ABV. Overall, this was a huge surprise, and ultimately one of the better Barleywines I've ever had. Complex, smooth as silk, and crazy drinkable. Highly recommended!
