330 ml bottle into a goblet. Best by 6/2021, had 11/1/18.

Pours a cloudy medium amber, with a short head and some soapy cling. Aromas of malt, figs, dates, brown sugar, caramel, grapes, light plums. A bit of a sweet aroma overall. The taste mostly follows the nose- malt, dates, caramel, some figs, lighter grapes than the aroma, a smattering of cherries, some bitterness on the finish. It’s a little sweet. Smooth, a good medium to full body, well carbonated.

Better than expected, but it leans hard to a barleywine. Great aroma, good flavor, a little lighter feel than usual for a quad- if we stick to that label. Worth grabbing a couple bottles.

Pours with very little head, consistent with the low carbonation to come. Standard quad territory on the nose, but with emphasis on prune and plum, vanilla and brown sugar. A bit more complexity as it warms, but nothing really standing out besides the low carbonation that leaves something to be desired.

330ml bottle - wow, this Italian contract brewery sure likes the big-boy brews, eh?

This beer pours a murky, dark orange-brick brown colour, with three fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat bubbly beige head, which leaves a bit of approaching island landmass lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, earthy Belgian yeast, muddled dark orchard fruit (maybe some plums and besotted raisins), gritty honey, and a small suggestion of herbal and spicy noble hops. The taste is grainy and bready caramel malt, some lesser biscuity toffee sweetness, honeyed crackers, a sort of pithy yeastiness, hints of chocolate and vanilla, still hard to pin down dark fruity notes, and more rather understated leafy, herbal, and mildly floral hop bitters.

The carbonation is quite meek in its low-fi frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and generally smooth, with a wee airy creaminess sneaking in as things warm up a tad. It finishes sweet, the various sugary elements in a sort of Mexican stand-off.

Overall, this is a fairly well-rendered version of the style - it's sweet, yes, but from enough different vectors that a certain complexity arises, and you just don't really notice the sugary essences all that much. Easy to drink for its near 23-proof wowee sauce quotient, and enjoyable as a nice little sipper.

Opaque, dark brown color with beige, creamy head. Aroma has belgian yeast character with raisins and booze. Taste starts sweet, with dried fruits and caramel, also a slight fruity tartness, but finishes on more balanced tone, getting a bit of roasty bitterness. Body is medium to heavy and has a medium carbonation. Fortunately, the booze is not as noticeable in the taste. Overall this is a pretty well made quad but doesn't really stand up to the greats of the style.
