Very dark beer, pretty much no light getting through this one. Forms a large tan head that sticks around for a bit, but doesn't leave much lacing.

Smell is a bit subdued, seems to be mainly malt and chocolate. Actually reminds me a bit of the smell of chocolate cake.

Starts out sweet, then a lot of chocolate makes itself known. Quite a bit of fruit, seems to be mainly cherry. Has a fairly strong hop bite at the finish, leaving some lingering bitterness. It's a bit like eating a dark chocolate candy bar with a cherry filling. There is a bit of warming at the finish, but the alcohol is well hidden.

Smooth feel, and a lot of tingling from the carbonation. Bit thin for the style, but not overly so.

Interesting take on a stout, a bit sweeter than most are, not not overly so. I would classify this as a dessert beer, would pair well with something chocolaty. First beer I have tried from this brewery, and this one makes me want to try more from them.

Pours dark with a nice thick head. Taste is smooth sweat and tart. Nice balance of malt and hops with a nice dry finish. Coffee and chocolate linger on the palate.

750 ml bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. My first big bottle, and my third beer from Ale Syndicate. Also my first stout from these guys. Expectations are decent based on my previous encounters with this brewery.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a dark cola colored body with 4 big fingers of fluffy khaki tan head. Big scattered sheets of fluffy lacing. Looks very nice.

S - The smell is a bit tame, but hits it's mark. Semi-sweet baking chocolate, cream, vanilla, cookie dough, mild alcohol fumes, and some mustiness / yeast-derived fruitiness.

T - Taste follows the nose - semi-sweet bitter baking chocolate, vanilla, cream, powdery cocoa. Fudgey; cakey. Some Belgian-esque yeast presence is noticeable.

M - The feel is smooth and creamy. Powdery, bitter, and dry.

Overall, a very nice stout from Ale Syndicate. "Foreign-style' in the sense of the Belgian / European styled yeast presence used here, I'm guessing. Good balance and depth of flavor. The warming 9.40% abv is noticeable at times, but it is definitely not distracting or overwhelming. I would love to see what a bourbon barrel aged treatment would do to this.

This is a good one. Shared with my brother poured from a bottle into a snifter.

A - Pours jet black. Great smooth pour. Not too much head forming. Head that forms is a nice light Khaki with a quality cascade joining it.

S - Coffee Roast is strong in this one. Not overpowering.

T - Coffee holds in the up front taste. Maintains throughout the experience. Great balance to the flavor.

M - Great consistency. Not overly creamy. Heavy enough to know you are drinking a stout that has been crafted well.

O - Very excited to see more from Ale Syndicate. If this is any indication of their potential, it is a brewery to be on the lookout for.
