(Served in a nonic)
This beer has an opaque black body with a thin ring of tan foam that last a bit. The smell is a mellow char but pronounced and some chocolate malt notes in the finish. The taste brings on much more character. Rich chocolate malt flavor has a light earthiness to it with a toasted malt note underneath and a soft chalk flavor in the finish. There is a roasted note that lingers nicely after each sip. The creamy carbonation enhances the finish of the beer nicely.

This is mellow but rich and is a classic porter with great chocolate malt flavors with some good depth but still very drinkable.

Black in the glass, a finger of foam, chunky lacing sticks to the sides.
Aroma is pretty sweet, smells like scorched molasses.

Taste is big on malt sweetness and roastiness, reminds me of a baltic porter like Zywiec.
Aftertaste is dry with a lingering piney bitterness. Full bodied and viscous, a little too sweet for my taste, odd sugars and a little bit of noticeable booze. Overall it's fairly interesting, unique for a local beer. It reminds me of $2 pint bottles of Polish porters, which I enjoy but this is too sweet for me.
Polish kielbasa.

Thanks to Bob for this one!

Nice dark pour with decent texture. Aroma smelled of a nice chocolate and fruity mix. Very pleasant taste, with decent carbonation and a nice kick to it. Very good strong beer and I look forward to this offering in the future.

This was fairly decent. A relatively light imperial porter with a chocolate forward feel. Something of a caramel and tangy cola aftertaste, this had a feel of a chocolate soda in a sense, probably as I found the body to be similar in profile.

As a Chicagoan, I must confess that I've never tasted an Ale Syndicate brew. The confession gets worse if I tell you that I was inside their building. Circumstance and Serendipity have met, at least for this brew.

Looks good enough to drink.. even if I had choices.
Aromatics are not full for this style, but this is above average.

Taste in the attack seems average for the imperial alcohol level, but the after-taste is exceptional; not an overwhelming malty bitterness that brewers tend to fall into.
Mouthfeel is average, not smoother than the best. And seems a bit watery for an imperial.

OA: a very decent porter. Both the taste quality and alcohol will bring me back to this porter. A very young brewery that is Chicago-centric; but it deserves distribution beyond my town.
