Poured into a Samuel Smith pint glass. Pours a hazy medium golden amber with a half finger white head that dissipates to a thin film with light lacing. Aroma of biscuit malt and English style hops; grassy and lightly citrus. Flavor follows, with biscuit malt, citrus and grassy hops with a bit of resinous bite, finishing with lingering resinous hops. Medium bodied with nice peppery carbonation. Although the hops do have an English profile, this drinks more like an American pale ale, well hopped and bitter. Nice biscuit malt and interesting grassy and sharp, but herbal hops. Perhaps not quite to English style (maybe I'm misunderstanding fresh English mild ales, having had only imported bottles), but enjoyable and a nice session / lunch ale. Listed as "Gold Ale" here, the bottle is labled Golden Ale, and certainly the same ale.

I had this on-tap in a pint glass at Special Brews in Lynnwood, WA.

Appearance: medium golden hue with a light haze and light effervescence. Head is a finger of creamy ivory foam with a smooth, thick lace left on the glass. Quite attractive.

Smell: lightly sweet and malty; not too rich in character, but nice for the style.

Taste: very toasty, bready malt with a share of biscuit thrown in for good measure. Hops are earthy and resiny, and it's surprisingly bitter. Kind of raspy, but this beer packs a lot of flavor for its ABV.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a decent carbonation and a fine creaminess for the style. Good stuff.

Overall: I like this beer. The toasty malt and raspy hops aren't usually my thing, but I like the amount of flavor this thing packs.
