Here is a father’s toast to his son. Brewed with cocoa nibs and lactose, Hunter boasts a creamy texture and rich chocolate flavor. Vanilla, roast, and caramel sweetness are met with a bright hop bitterness.

Lots of dark fruits, some chocolate but the dark fruits dominate, the base beer is kinda meh compared to some of the variants.

Pours black with a dark caramel or tobacco colored foam one finger deep. Aroma is malt, deep chocolate and a bit of vanilla at the way end of the profile. Carbonation is moderate. The mouthfeel is moderate as well, sitting exactly in the middle between a thick bourbon barrel stout and a porter. Taste is quite neutral, with malt dominating at the very, very tail end of the taste, vanilla hits. Bitterness is nicely done and no one profile outshines another. I could drink several in a row. Nicely done.

Good taste and great feel, not really any alcohol bite for 8 %, easy sipping beer. Enjoyed sipping out of the can and pouring into a glass, would definitely try again.

Even if lactose doesn't work for you in an IPA, it just seems better suited to stouts and porters. Poured from a pint can into a clear Imperial pint glass, it all fits nicely, as there's no head. It's black coffee brown, bright and opaque. There's a roasted barley character to the aroma, but it is muddled by something else, likely the milk sugars. But, the taste isn't noticeably effected by it. It just tastes like a very good stout, although the bitterness at the finish is smoothed out a bit. This is a rare example of a brew that might be improved by lactose. At an eight percent ABV, this could have had an acceptable alcoholic bite, but it doesn't. Overall, this is a very drinkable Imperial Stout, with full and robust roasted barley and some hops, too. It's body, as it should be, is smooth. This is one brew not to be discounted because it contains milk solids.

Had on tap at Beerhead in Elmhurst, IL. Didn't take notes at the time, but it was difficult not to be impressed by this. I normally find milk stouts too sweet, but this had real nice roast to it, almost coffee like (which I enjoy). Very smooth drinking; would not have been shocked to find out it was nitro (same bar had Deschutes Obsidian nitro). Highly recommended, especially when so many local bars have one craft stout around 5% and all the rest above 12%.

Appearance: Pours onyx colored with a one finger beige head that slowly fades while leaving an array of dots and squiggles behind

Smell: Chocolate and heavily roasted malt with vanilla, milk sugars and prune

Taste: Burnt grains and chocolate forward with vanilla and prune developing; the hops come through, in the middle, adding some bitterness while there is also some alcohol evident in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet

Overall: A nicely balanced milk stout - a style that often verges in a direction that is too sweet for me

Pours a dark brown color with a foamy tan head that lasts quite a while. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malts. Tastes of chocolate with a hint of caramel. Slight bitterness at the end but very smooth and creamy.

Off to a great-looking beer deep dark black pitch with a nice half inch of mocha foam that settles to a nice ring. Smells of mild coffee cocoa nibs vanilla and lactose sugars. Taste is pretty nice love the cocoa nib and vanilla combination and the milk sugar is really round everything out very mild coffee presence. Mouthfeel is quite smooth creamy velvety medium to light body. Overall a really nice find from a brewery I don't have very many beers from.
