This bottle-conditioned sour ale was brewed without hops and bittered and flavored with Southern Illinois-grown blackberries and lavender. It was fermented with our wild mixed house culture and cellared for several months before the release. This beautiful beer is ruby red with flavors of tart blackberry, cinnamon, vanilla, and flowers.

Nice level of lavender, and as always, it is somewhat dry with the sour taste of all Scratch beers. The blackberry is mostly fermented out with a little bit of spiciness from the berry.

Pours a murky strawberry-red with a big creamy-white cap that fizzles away in seconds.
The lavender is very present on the nose, taste is a nicely balanced blend of berries, lavender, a bit of tartness almost like lime juice. I'm not picking up much cinnamon. Overall flavor is tart and tangy as opposed to sour, with just a hint of sweetness to balance things.
Really memorable and tasty brew, unique with the lavender. Wish I had another bottle for another day.

A: Deep amber color with no head, fairly clear
S: Cinnamon, apple cider, lactic acidity, pie, sweet caramel, light vanilla, botanical, lavender when you search for it
T: Sour blackberry, caramel malt, balanced acidity, earthy botanical (lavender or rosemary notes), subtle cinnamon, light apple cider vinegar
M: Medium-light
O: Very impressive as usual from Scratch. The tart berry and earthy lavender balance out the malt base. The wild yeast adds a great acidity but no funk

Dark reddish amber with good clarity, offwhite foam and spotty lacing.

Distinctive seedy berry aroma, lightly sweet lavender lends interesting compliexity. Lightly acidic, though the berry/floral elements dominate.

Puckering sour blackberry, sourdough, lavender is in the background. Moderate acidity with a medium body and coarse carbonation. Rustic with some complexity, though not especially wild in character. Lactobacillus adds a yogurty tang, and it finishes dry. Very quenching and a perfect pairing with cheese.

Took a few sips to grow on me, due to the fact that I’m not sure what I was expecting. But man, i can say this really did grow on me in every sense of the phrase. A very unique marriage of flavors with the botanical character of the lavender and the earthiness of a touch of cinnamon coming through on the smell. Taste is great. Just the right amount of tartness and the blackberry starts to come through here. Look forward to trying their other beers and will definitely seek this one out again.
