Retired (no longer brewed)
Notes: Bottle-conditioned farmhouse ale brewed without hops, bittered and flavored with whole marigold roots, stems and flowers from our property and fermented with our wild house mixed culture. It was then aged for 9 months in neutral oak with a native wild yeast.

Deep orange color with a slight haze. Weak, soda like head. Bright and fresh, floral, grass, earth, barnyard funk and wet straw aroma. Flavor follows very closely with emphasis on the floral, leaf and yeast funk notes. Very mild acidity. Wood is subtle at the back of the tongue. Light body with assertive bubbles. Dry finish but not necessarily from the acid. After each swallow I get an unusual feeling on the tongue as if I just chewed a mouthful of dandelions. This spicy floral, weed flavor lingers and sticks on the tongue long into the after taste. Overall, exceptional stuff. Scratch is really cutting edge and doing things I haven't encountered from any other brewery. This beer really defines what they are all about.

Small bottle, quick review from notes.
Murky orange color, thin layer of frothy foam with sticking lace around the edges.
Earthy aroma with floral traces of marigold, but thankfully not as stanky as fresh blossoms can be.
Tart and earthy with floral herbal flavors, low level bitterness and a light puckering acidity with a drying finish.
Medium bodied and effervescent, well carbed and crisp. Unique and interesting, the marigolds are present as advertised.

A: Light amber with a thick off-white head
S: Sweet malt, earthy, tart, grape, oak, floral, anise, mint
T: Sweet malt, earthy brett, bready, tart, vinous, red grape, hay, floral, light bitterness much different to a typical hop bitterness, light honey, oak
M: Medium-light with delicate carbonation
O: Seems like a biere de garde. Very nice low abv beer with plenty of flavor from the wild yeast and oak. Well done Scratch!
