Pretty cool random place. Have some great west coast IPA's on tap. You can sit and watch people fish and drink beer and eat some pretty decent fried food. Kind of a must stop if you're in the area!

One of the oddest places I've seen - a restaurant with a very active bait shop attached.

Perfect setting at the end of a pier. Small - 2 tables inside and 4-5 outside.

20 draft lines - all high quality. About half local.

Very friendly staff.

Housemade sausages that are creative and very tasty.

This is one of my favorite places in San Diego. Where else can you sit on a pier watching the pelicans watching people fishing, boats going by, the salty air, and acres of free parking? And Shelter Island is an excellent place for a stroll.

The tap list is about a dozen beers, and I have yet to visit there without finding something new to me. Always 2-4 Belgians, an interesting vartiety of San Diego brews, and some from elsewhere. During the cooler months they have a warmed Belgian dark with a cinnamon stick.

The music seems to be generally the 60's and 70's but not the top 40 hits, and the speakers outside don't detract from the atmosphere. Inside the small place are a few tables and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea memorabilia. Sausages and sandwiches are quite decent. If you're visiting, this should be on your list for a unique San Diego experience plus guaranteed interesting beers.

Ok, do not take my review as a negative here because Fathom was quite the find! It is small and the beer selection is limited but a good selection on tap! The fact is the place is very relaxing and the view is beautiful especially at night!

full disclosure - dennis, the owner, is a good buddy of mine, but I love the place. I believe it's the only bar in san diego where you can drink this quality of beer on the water (correct me if I'm wrong, 'cause I'll go anywhere else that I can also do that).

fathom is at the end of a pier in point loma. you can sit in the small room inside or at the tables outside. it's peaceful, not overrun (yet), and very friendly. so that covers atmosphere. on the quality...dennis has been part of hamilton's, small bar, and just about every other big-time beer bar in san diego. so he's got the right connections. even had pliny on his opening night. it's a short list, but it's of the highest quality. the service was also first-rate. a ton of fun and great at what they do. regarding the food - while it's not the healthiest selection...it's good. homemade sausages, burgers, and the explodo-dog. oh, and beers are five bucks. can't beat that. well, I guess you can. they could be $3. but then he wouldn't be in business.

a seriously great new beer bar in san diego. highly recommend checking it out.

Visited here a few weekends ago. Awesome location (Shelter Island pier) with great views. Perfect place to enjoy a pint outside. Didn't try any food, but everything looked good. Beer list was short, but did not disappoint. Very well selected draft offerings. Can't wait to get back here again.
