Atmosphere: Small indoor area with artwork pertaining to the name, but not as overboard as I'd expect with the name. Nice outdoor patio and a grassy area for games and more seating.
Selection: not a bad selection, especially for a brewery of their age. probably about 8 taps with one keg being kicked while I was there. represented a wide range of styles and tastes.
Quality: I tried two of the beers, dubbel and english bitter. both were good, neither was spectacular. seems like they know their styles and how to brew within the style profile.
Overall: not a big fan of the whole intense apocalyptic artwork/names but over all I'd say its a pretty decent brewery and place to check out. Brewers definitely know how to make good beer and I will certainly watch and see if this is a brewery to take off in the future.

Takes awhile to get a beer considering the layout of the bar. Decent variety of beer.

I've visited AAW a couple of times over the past year and I like the place. The tasting room is pretty small but as long as they aren't crowded its just fine. Funky décor. They have a nice outdoor area that one would probably call a 'beer garden' with decent patio furniture and nice sun screens over the seating areas. They often have live music when the weather is nice and a rotating selection of food trucks available. When they get busy they open an outdoor bar that serves a selection of their beers, which is nice, so that you don't have to walk upstairs and inside to get another beer. They always have a large selection of their beers available, more than many other local breweries do. Everything that I have had while visiting there has been pretty good. Its too bad that the inside tasting room can't be expanded for when its cold outside.

The local brewery in the Lynchburg/Forest region of VA. Visited a handful of times.
Vibe: Indoor is small. Nothing even worth mentioning. Brewing is done in what appears to be an old fire station. The saving grace is the large outdoor area, styled as a large backyard party. Includes a small elevated deck, a large lawn area, and "adult jenga" which always makes a few beers more entertaining. No real theme here, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Quality: Award winning brews. Building isn't falling apart. No complaints.
Service: I've never seen outdoor service, and for a place with a mostly outdoor footprint, this is annoying. Usually only has one bartender. Not a big fan of the hours of this place though.
Selection: Plenty of offerings, but all stick to the same style. Apocalypse has a distinct style and they stick to it. Even when branching out to IPA, it still really screams Apocalypse. A small humidor is on site to provide a selection of cigars too.
Note: Has a bottle shop next door with a reasonable selection and growler fills.

A wonderful Saturday afternoon hang out. On Monday's they have a taco truck, Taco Shark, that creates some wonderful street food.
The beer (really, that's why we're here) is always flawless.
Doug John, the owner and Brewmaster is the Walter White of Virginia Beers.

Awesome beer, awesome people. They are currently building a great outside setting which will be great for the upcoming fall weather. They had 6 tap lines, with five beers running at the time. The 6th was not ready but we were offered a taste off the fermenter. Tasting room is small but adequate for the setting. Worth the ride out there!

AAA is a great place run by great people. Doug and Lee are fantastic ambassadors of the craft beer world and the brilliance of their own brews is a testament to that. Every single one of the beers that they have put out for the public to taste has taken home some kind of medal at at least one beer festival or championship.
I just graduated from Lynchburg College and this past year there was a lot of talk on campus about this brewery opening just 6 miles down the road in Forest, VA. I absolutely love the atmosphere of their tasting room and they have a live band almost every week, weather permitting.
This is a great small batch craft brewery and I wish Doug, Lee and their committed staff all the best in their continued efforts to eliminate bad beer from the pallets of the public.
To quote the brewery slogan, "The end of bad beer is here."

Currently Apocalypse Ale Works has 3 Year rounds on tap (and 3 seasonal). Hoppocalypse Red Ale, Golden Censer American Pale Wheat Ale and Glorious Dead ESB will be their staples. With 6th Seal Stout, Lustful Maiden Dubbel, and a Scottishe Wee Heavy soon to come for the seasonal beers. The brewery opened for business the first of the year 2013. I tried the Belgian style ale on a Saturday afternoon. Not alot going on this early in the day, so not a good representation of the overall atmosphere. Currently only beer munchies are available, but they have had and intend to have live music on the deck and occassionally bring in the local Gastro Trucks for cookouts for weekend events. You are welcome to bring in your own food and enjoy a beer with your meal.
The Belgian Ale I tried was excellent. This beer took the Gold medal in the Beligan category at the 2013 beer championship in Atlanta. It was $6 for the Belgian. Prices range from $4-$6 for a glass and $20 for a growler. I look forward to this brewerey growing and expanding. Doug John started this brewery and from the quality of my first sampling, he is off to an incredible start. The place is young and deveolping it's personality, but the quality of the beer is fabulous. I will be back.
