500 ML bottle poured into a snifter at 53 degrees F:
L - dark, looks more like a stout than a barleywine, head disappeared quickly
S - malt, faint bourbon, dirt, wood, bit of fig/molasses
T - mild notes of wood and malt with a bourbon finish; a bit earthy
F - a bit oily, medium mouthfeel, low carbonation
O - the beer is now 3.5 to 4 years old and I bought it 2 weeks ago, it is clearly past its prime, but still a flavorful interesting beer

Thanks to moose3285 for this 500ML bottle, handed to me during a night of carousing somewhere in OH. I can’t recall where. At least I didn’t wake up with stripper dust on my face.
The pour is dark enough red that it looks stout black out of the direct firelight, light visible carbonation. The nose is an odd combination of malt, caramel, dirt, & wood. Interesting.
Ye Olde Battering Ram – Boubon Barrel Aged takes a couple of sips to properly digest the tastes. Mostly, it makes me think of a stout mixed with a barleywine mixed with a shot of Spirytus Rektyfikowany. Vanilla & sweet malts up front, followed by a mixed cornucopia of flavors: plummy fruit, fig, what I imagine chaw to taste like, touch of earth, wood. Only the faintest hint of bourbon on the finish. Soft, almost creamy, gentle mouthfeel on this ogre. Kind of wishing I’d split Shrek with my wife.
Last night I had an odd quad, this is an odd barleywine. Interesting melding of unusual tastes that works. Very good brew.

Stark blackish-red with a persistent dark tannish-red film and a thicker ring.
Smell exhibits a lot of bourbon and oak with dark fruit, molasses and cola.
Taste is rich, deep and sticky of dark fruit, spiced bourbon and rum with cocoa dusted raisin. That lighter cola note comes in from the nose, which is capped off by some mixed nuts.
The medium body contains a full froth with a slightly hot, semi-dry finish.

this is amazing stuff, up there with the best barrel aged barleywine i have had. i was late to the game on this madtree stuff this year, it all came out for great american beer fest, but there was so much other stuff around i have not jumped in to either package or draft until this one. only my second beer from these guys ever, it blew me away. a huge dark caramel colored rich looking barleywine, thick and viscous, long legs on the edges of the glass like a wine. tons and tons of bourbon on the nose and in the flavor, rich natural vanilla, caramel and toffee, vanilla and brown sugar, so mellow and mature, heavy as lead, i would love to know what barrels they used for this. you can certainly appreciate the strength, this is boozy and desserty, but the wood is so heavy and earthy that it tames it down at the same time that it beefs it up, this beer has the perfect name, and it not only battering rams my taste buds, but it also rams my blood alcohol content, which may never go back to zero after this one, no kidding. i love how heavy this is, i dont want some half assed barleywine, and this one is all in. tons and tons of whiskey to it, boozy but i like it, and weird but awesome fruitiness, dried apricot, schnapps or something, vanilla for sure, rum raisin, maple, and an ungodly amount of grain heft. i thought this was awesome, nuanced and enormous at the same time, a giant walking a tightrope, assertive to the max, but mellow and refined. A+

A - Dark brown pour with thick, creamy lacing, very sticky on the sides of the glass.
S - Vanilla, toasted toffee, toasted chocolate, oak, toasted coconut.
T - Toasted chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, oak, and well balanced across the board with not one flavor overpowering the other. Lingering bourbon and chocolate.
M - Full bodied, thick, and sticky on the lips.
O - An outstanding beer, hands down. Seek this one out.
