One of the better midwest IPAs that I have had that is not brewed in Minnesota. Wish I could have paired it with a bowl of Skyline chili.

12oz can poured into a can glass, canned 12/29/15

A- pours a clear deep golden color with a two-finger creamy and foamy white head that has good retention, sticking around long after the pour

S- up front has a bit of a vegetal & herbaceous aroma; leafy greens & cooking herbs. Beyond that, aromas of grass, floral hop, citrus & subtle toasted malt

T- juicy, slightly tangy citrus fruit up front with an emphasis on grapefruit peel, followed by vegetal notes that follow the nose, piney, floral and grassy hops kick in near the finish, with dry linger of more grass and toasted malt

M- medium body and carbonation leads to a foamy mouthful and a dry crisp finish

O- easy drinking ipa with a nice mix of hop flavors

Canned on 8/9/17. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy glowing golden with a big chunky eggshell white head that slowly falls leaving great thick retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are floral and citrus forward. Bread and crackers are there along with some malts. The flavors are pretty bold. More floral notes leading the way followed by more citrus. Lots of grapefruit along with some melon. Fresh grass and pine in the mix. Mild resinous characteristics. Nice hop flavors and hop bitterness. Malts are there, but don't dominate. It finishes juicy and dry at the same time. Alcohol goes unnoticed for the most part. Mouthfeel is very nice. It's medium-bodied with moderate to active carbonation. It's very fluffy, smooth and easy to drink.

This is a nice IPA. It's bold and refreshing. The craftsmanship is on point. This is my first time having something from MadTree, and I can say it's a solid first impression.

Canned 1-7-2016. DFH Tulip.

Appearance: Slightly hazy gold with 1 finger white head. Active, visible small-bubble carbonation. Fair retention, keeps a little skim with a white ring around the edge and islands of bubbles in the middle.

Aroma: Familiar lemon-lime hoppiness, some resin, then a floral/tropical character; perhaps mango. There is a floral malty quality to this that smells, not kidding here, like a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky.

Taste: Immediately dry, bitter, clean arrival. Light, super crisp malt across the middle, then a strong, but not overpowering hop bitterness finish. This is less bitter than expected. I'd put it around 50 IBUs. Not sweet in the least, with lots of citrus, then pine hop resin and lingering light bitterness. The hop bitterness really shows up on the tongue after the swallow, not before. Very strange.

Mouthfeel: Heavier side of light; active, but not overpowering carbonation. Pretty damned clean, if I do say so myself.

Overall: This is a super crisp and refreshing West Coast style IPA. Reminds me of (gasp!) Sam Adams Rebel. But this has a less fragrant nose than Rebel and WAY more bitterness on the end. An excellent light/summer IPA, similar to, but less bitter than Mystic Mama, more bitter than Rebel, less tropical than White Rajah. Definitely six-pack worthy.

I had this on draught in a sports bar in Cincinnati. 16 oz. pour in a pint glass. It pours a medium amber color with a nice layer of milk-white head and lots of lacing with good retention. The smell is subdued and primarily malty with mild pine, grapefruit, grass, and hops. This is a decidedly malt-forward IPA with brown bread and caramel. There is also notes of grapefruit but the hops play only a supporting role. This ale is fairly creamy with pleasing carbonation and it's 6.9% ABV gives it substance without distracting from the other attributes. Overall, PsycHOPathy is an excellent example of a southern style, malt-forward IPA. It's a nice change of pace from over-the-top West Coast and NE versions.

This is a really solid ipa. Delicious floral and tropical hop flavors sustained and held nicely together by the malt backbone. Decent aroma upon opening of can as well.

12 oz. can, dated July 2015, into a snifter.

A: Clear but limited clarity in the gold-amber body. Moderate size but short lived head leaves spotty lacing on the glass.

Aroma - very fruity, with plenty of citrus, mainly orange. Suggests more tartness than sweetness. Good complexity.

Feel: Medium body and near medium carbonation. Crisp and dry.

Flavor: Some sweet malt; enough to leave this IPA with relatively low bitterness for style. The hoppy characteristics still dominate, with tropical fruit, herbal and evergreen notes.

Overall: Low bitterness but plenty of hops for an IPA.
