Pours a pale gold with medium head and lots of sticky lace. Nose is somewhat dank with floral and grassy notes as well. Taste is light on malt backbone and is overall light for a 6.9% IPA. Lemongrass and that same grassy floral note dominate. Light mouthfeel. Overall, it is a tasty IPA if you are looking for this specific profile, but might not satisfy some with its small malt backbone and not-so-juicy flavor.

Gorgeous beer. Light, lemon- orange with slight haze. Billowing head leaves a plateau then mound of foam over the liquid. Tons of soap suds on the glass. Bright and fresh citrus and grass aroma. Flavor follows with a strong lemon and pine sol quality. Even and balanced bread and honey malt. Slightly buttery. Medium body. Creamy texture. Slightly under carbonated. Excellent brew.

Thanks Kegatron for gifting me with this. Can into snifter appears a pale clear golden yellow with a white cap. The cap fades leaving spotty lace.

Aroma is solvent with alcohol, slightly fruity with hints of herbs/pine and grainy sweetness.

Taste is lightly herbal, fruity to slight pulpy bitterness and somewhat vegetal to solvent. Light grain sweetness and hints of butter.

Light body, modest carbonation. Almost feels more like an amped up pils moreso than ipa.

On draft at Maple Wod in Cincinatti, OH.

Hazy, light orange body with a thick, soapy white head. Aromas of bitter pine, grapefruit zest. Hop forward with bitter citrus peel, finishing dry. Solid.

I bought a can of this beer at Andersons in Reynoldsburg, OH. It poured a hazy yellow with thin white head that is leaving a very nice lace. The scent is sweet in nature with a bitter hop. The taste is a mix of lemon bitter hop with sweet malt and alcohol. The Mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it's ok....averge at best for ipas.

Beautiful color. Hops with a bit of citrus. Strong smell with solid head. Smooth, perfect for the summer. Whenever I see this in the store, it is a must buy.

12 oz can. Pours clean light golden, finger white head fades to a lasting thin layer, plenty lace. Dank weedy aroma and taste, mild citrus notes. Dry grassy finish. Tastes way lighter than the abv, almost like a session IPA. Medium soft mouthfeel. Overall good weedy IPA.

Can to snifter. Look is medium gold and slightly hazy. Smell is piney hops, some peppery spice. Taste is bitter piney hops, light flowery notes and come citrus. Malt is well balanced but the fish is a bit dry. Overall I didn't really like this one on first try, but I enjoyed my second can a bit more. Still nothing outstanding tho. I prefer my IPAs more citrus hop forward and bright, and this was more old school

Had on tap at Fox & Hound, Beavercreek, OH. Underwhelmed with the beer in all areas. Weak foam, weak aroma and average flavors that didn't "pop" for me. Nothing wrong with this IPA but it was nothing special.

A 3 month old can (a little older than I'd like) poured a little at a time into a Belgian-style tasting glass.

This beer pours very pale... Almost golden. It's slightly hazy with about a finger of tight, white bubbles. This one is leaving some fairly thick lacing in my glass.

The nose starts very sweet with notes of passion fruit, overripe grapefruit, and stone fruit that is followed up by dank, slightly oniony hop notes. A tremendously hop forward beer.

The flavors follow the nose almost exactly. It bursts with juicy overripe citrus and stone fruit and then evolved into a sort of oniony, dank hop flavor. The finish is about as dry as I've had. This is definitely an archetypal west coast IPA.

Toured the brewery last week and these guys are great. They make really great beer with a lot of passion. I can see why this is their flagship and as popular as it is.

Had it on tap at the brewery but forgot to log tasting notes. All I know was I had 3 of them and loved them. If you're in Cincy, make sure you swing by Mad Tree!

What can i say? Madtree produces some of my favorite brew. Their Thundersnow (spiced Scottish ale) is one of my favorite seasonal beers and their Rubous Cacao (raspberry porter) is absolutely phenomenal! These guys are truly diverse in their craft and I have yet to be disappointed by any of their beer.

Onto the review:

poured from can to pint glass and served cold.

Appearance - Very transparent yellow with the slightest orange hue when held to light. By looks alone you might even mistake it for a corona! Solid one finger and slightly off-white head that retains exceptionally well with surprisingly heavy lacing. A very clean looking brew.

Scent - Floral and sweet with subtle citrus hops notes. Not nearly as hoppy as you'd expect from an IPA, though! A very attractive scent to this beer!

Taste - The taste is primarily of floral hops with a smooth wheat backbone, and a clean grassy and slightly peppery aftertaste. A very well balanced brew, indeed! Mouthfeel is light, despite its high carbonation levels. Crisp and smooth finish. A VERY refreshing IPA, if you ask me!

Overall - This beer is quite possibly most most interesting, exquisite, and refreshing brew to ever righteously hold the title IPA. This beer was an experience. They dont call this psycHOPathy for nothin!

Canned 1-7-2016. DFH Tulip.

Appearance: Slightly hazy gold with 1 finger white head. Active, visible small-bubble carbonation. Fair retention, keeps a little skim with a white ring around the edge and islands of bubbles in the middle.

Aroma: Familiar lemon-lime hoppiness, some resin, then a floral/tropical character; perhaps mango. There is a floral malty quality to this that smells, not kidding here, like a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky.

Taste: Immediately dry, bitter, clean arrival. Light, super crisp malt across the middle, then a strong, but not overpowering hop bitterness finish. This is less bitter than expected. I'd put it around 50 IBUs. Not sweet in the least, with lots of citrus, then pine hop resin and lingering light bitterness. The hop bitterness really shows up on the tongue after the swallow, not before. Very strange.

Mouthfeel: Heavier side of light; active, but not overpowering carbonation. Pretty damned clean, if I do say so myself.

Overall: This is a super crisp and refreshing West Coast style IPA. Reminds me of (gasp!) Sam Adams Rebel. But this has a less fragrant nose than Rebel and WAY more bitterness on the end. An excellent light/summer IPA, similar to, but less bitter than Mystic Mama, more bitter than Rebel, less tropical than White Rajah. Definitely six-pack worthy.

MadTree Brewing - PsycHOPathy IPA. 6.9% ABV. 12oz can poured into a snifter. Canned on 12/14/15.

Look: Settles a hazy, vibrant yellow with a huge three finger white head from aggressive pour. After a long while, it ends up as a thick cap.

Smell: Light hops, backed by an earthy grass aroma, along with some citrus fruits and slight malt.

Feel: Very light body, smooth and creamy, with some minor carbonation to liven it up.

Taste: Dank hop and grass seem to be the most prominent, backed by citrus fruits. Mild bitterness throughout, but near the end, some malt shows up to balance.

Overall: A little more bitter than I like, but balanced pretty well between hops and malt. Feels pretty sessionable, even for the ABV.

This one is a translucent medium yellow through with I can see but distinguish nothing due to the heavy haze. It still has a brightness to it, though, and a light continuous bubbling activity from the bottom of the glass. The head forms and remains a solid finger for several minutes, taking time to fade to a thick layer of foam and dropping very solid patching as it does.
The aroma brings out citrus and floral bitterness with a leaf / grass note to it. There's some grapefruit zest and a bit of herb in there as well. Malts just make their presence known but are a bit hard to pin down, seeming a touch sweet but held down by bitterness.
There's good bitterness, balance, and complexity to this beer all around. Hops bite with pith up front as well as leaf and pine, the herbal note just coming out underneath. Only at the very end is a touch of candy sweetness just evident on the tongue. Malts again give way to hops but show a bit of cracker. The finish lingers with the pith and leaf one might expect.
Moderately carbonated, this beer holds a solid crispness in a medium body the whole way through while remaining pretty smooth. It runs semi-dry from beginning to end.

Appearance is yellow amber with hints of orange and green, a thick white head that fades, and nice lacing.

Nose is fragrant with mandarin orange, ginger, biscuit.

Taste is sharp up front with hop bite, fades into caramel and lemon Italian soda, hints of honey and vanilla in the back.

Mouthfeel has plenty of carbonation, refreshing.

Overall, more refreshing and earthy than many IPAs.

This beer pours a hazy light yellow with a huge, frothy, bright white head. There is fantastic retention and huge hanging sheets of lacing. Smell is subtle floral, grassiness and citrus. Taste is the same with a good deal of bitterness balanced by a sweet maltiness. Feel is very light, but drinkable. Overall a very solid beer.

A little hazy, honey colored and a finger thick head that quickly settled into a thin layer and spotty lacing.

Nose starts out smelling just like a brewery. That may sound sillt, but I mean that rich grainy, thick smell you get when you go into the vessel room or whatever it's called. After that, not much else.

Taste is an immediate rush of pine hop bitter and sweet candy like maltifun.

Starts out thick, stays full bodied and finishes dry.

This one is pretty tasty to be sure.

This one has a strong pine, grass, and flowery taste and finish. The hops overtake the malt base, creating a nice Ohio-made rendition of a hoppy west coast pale ale.

12oz can, had half in the can, half in a glass. Pours a clear straw color. A definite hop nose on this beer, somewhere more in the piney world than the citrus, but there's an almost lager-y element here. The taste was reasonably dry hop up front (somewhere between wet and dry with the hops), but there was a certain off-flavor on the finish - almost like a cheap adjunct lager. Mouthfeel is medium-thin. I went into this beer with high hopes, and will certainly have to try another and revise my review with a little more detail, but at first blush, I'm unimpressed.

Appearance: Hazy golden straw that pours a small head with little retention. Very minor lacing.
Smell: Citrus (orange mainly) hops with subtle grass and malt notes.
Taste: Citrus hops (orange, grapefruit) and pine hops supported by a subtle malt backbone. Flavor finishes with a nice caramel.
Mouthfeel: Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Overall very smooth
Overall: This IPA is quite flavorful and very complex. It takes the expected hop characteristics of an IPA and adds a good chunk of complexity with the subtle malt. Highly recommended.

Cincy beers are taking off. Mad Tree Psychopathy is one that gets a lot of talk in the area as ipa's are so popular.

This beer is pretty good on its own.

A very straw like color with a pure white head. It is clear that they want the hops to be the focus. A bit of haziness.

Mny beer was canned on 10/22 and enjoyed on 11/15 so freshness should not be an issue.

The smell is aggressive hops that are particularly grassy. I can smell the malt sweetness which is unexpected for such a pale beer.

The best way to describe the taste is aggressive hop grassiness.

I prefer my ipa to have more pine, citrus flavors.

I suspect this is dryhopped aggressively with pellet hops. I get these grassy hazy characteristics with my homebrews if I dry hop with a loose bag and use pellets.

Pretty good ipa on its own but it simply cannot compare to Rhinegeist Truth(a Cincy ipa that is one of the best ipa's in the country IMHO).

Pours a golden color with a light haze. Has an aroma of dank resin hops. Flavor is pretty light compared to the aroma. Has mild pine flavors and the aftertaste fades off quickly. Overall solid IPA but could have a better finish and mouthfeel.
