BEER INFO

Brewed by:
MadTree Brewing
Ohio, United States | website

Style: American Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.90%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Not a ray of light penetrates the soul of this beer. Combining the roasted malt backbone of a Porter with a huge amount of earthy and citrusy hops typical in many IPA's, this unique ale will leave you questioning it's identity and maybe yours.

Not a big porter guy, but this is great. Drinks easy and smooth...full of flavor. Madtree does it again. Nice job fellas.

Poured from 12oz can into a tulip glass. Almost black with huge toffee head that dissipated to heavy lacing. Strong coffee and cocoa notes. Extremely smooth in the mouth. Early malt, then black coffee, then some cocoa bitterness that did not linger too long. A solid porter that leans toward bitter.

32 ounce growler
Served in a MadTree glass

A - It is very dark with no light coming through. It is topped with a couple inches of tan head.

S - The first thing I notice is some healthy floral hops. The roasted, chocolaty malt comes through as well.

T - The taste is a perfect marriage of hops and malt. The rich roasted malt brings some coffee and chocolate flavors. The hops add some citrus and bitterness to balance this beer. You could almost call it a black IPA.

M - Full

O - This is a great hoppy porter. It combines all the good things hops and roasted malt have to offer.

A: Pours dark but allows a tinge of reddist light through the sides. A lightly tanned head sits atop.

S: Big roast coats your nostrils followed up by dark bitter coffee. Milk chocolate with a real earthy hop coming through on the end.

T: Exactly as it smells, an assault of bitter bold coffee, hints of sour roasted coffee beans, and a little espresso. All of a sudden an earthy hop takes hold of your tongue. Dry pine and bitter dark espresso finish this off. an aftertaste reminiscent of smoke.

M: Very light and sessionable. The finish is dry and quick.

O: I really enjoyed drinking this. Went down very very easily. I liked how the hop played with the roasted characteristics i just wish i had more of that sour green coffee bean that it hinted at. /89
