Not a ray of light penetrates the soul of this beer. Combining the roasted malt backbone of a Porter with a huge amount of earthy and citrusy hops typical in many IPA's, this unique ale will leave you questioning it's identity and maybe yours.

Super dark like a cola. Nice tan head that leaves super lacing. Nose is like Cocoa. Taste is slightly cocoa ish. On the backend, you get a little bit of bitterness that continues to build across the palate.

On draft at the Brew Garden Middleburg Hts.
Dark almost black. Small film of bubbles hangs around. Light coffee, chocolate, pepper and hops. Black IPA like but subtle. Flavors are a bit week but improve a bit as it warms. Decent but not memorable.

I got a can of this off the single shelf at my local Giant Eagle. It poured an opaque dark with tan head that is leaving some lace. The scent reminds me of a Baltic porter. The taste was acidic leaning and not overly easy to drink. There is some pepper spice with coffee. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's an ok beer.

A - Dark brown body, mostly opaque, light tan head, huge and puffy, with a thick carpet of lacing.
S - Pine and a touch of citrus, a bit of coffee in the background.
T - Follows the nose, with strong hop flavors of pine and orange juice, a roasted malty core of bread and coffee, and a close that has a powerful, bitter bite.
M - Brisk carbonation, moderate weight, and dry close.
O - Solid black IPA, with nice hop and porter elements. Nothing confused about it.

Clean roast and pine aroma, pours an opaque black with a thin tan head. The roasted flavor is there for a bit before being overrun by pine hop notes. Full mouthfeel, and a slightly slick note really puts this into the Black IPA category more then a Porter. If you go into this looking for a balanced porter, you will be disappointed, if you are looking for a black IPA, you'll be glad you grabbed this.

Canned on 1/4/18. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours almost black with a rocky light khaki head that sticks around leaving great thick retention and sticky lacing. The aromas have some roasted characteristics along with some hints of citrus. Malts are there. The flavors follow the nose. Hints of chocolate and coffee along with some grapefruit and lemon. Subtle hints of pine and soap. More roasted characteristics. Solid bitterness. Malts do their thing. Finishes dry for the most part. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is nice. It's medium-bodied with moderate carbonation to active carbonation. It's smooth, slightly fluffy and easy to drink.
This is a pretty solid "hoppy porter". It could pass for a "Black IPA", but it has alot of porter qualities. It's enjoyable, well crafted and fun to drink. It's even better than my "numerical score" might indicate. Good stuff.
