Good IPA - Imperial. The 16 oz can doesn't say "Double Rye" any more. The original been must have been clear to only slightly hazy. The 2021 version pours a clear gold color the first time but subsequent pours provide a very hazy gold color. Big foamy white head with very good retention thick bands and connecting lacing on the glass. Clear or hazy, this is a good looking beer. Aroma and taste are fairly bitter. Hoppiness includes grapefruit in both the aroma and flavor as well as some sour rye and floral in the aroma. Taste is good, leaves you wanting more. Mouthfeel is nicely bitter and rich. No annoying alcohol presence, just a solid, somewhat bitter IPA.

Bottled Feb 25, 2014. Poured from a bomber into a shaker pint, the beer is a hazy, pale, copper-blonde coloring with slow, minimal carbonation throughout the body and a filmy, loose, white surface coating of head. Aromas of citrus and toasted grain initially, with a healthy dose of grapefruit, followed by subtle piney and resinous notes in the backbone. Pretty well balanced and inviting nose. Flavors are grapefruit and orange forward, with hints of tart along with the sweetness, followed by a pineapple/tropical twist, all on a smooth, toasted grain backbone. There is an underlying bitterness, very subtle, from the wheat notes, that helps to keep all the fruity sweet characteristics in check a bit. Pineapple and passionfruit carry the baton into the aftertaste, where they are balanced out by a very subtle hops profile of pine and cedar. Mellow, leaving this one a better representation of the fruitier side of hops. Smooth, mid-bodied throughout, with a crisp edge and clean, dry finish. Subtle bitter linger after each sip, giving just a jab of hops character once again. Different take on the style, but tasty and refreshing.

8 day old bottle
A: Pours a slightly hazy orange with a finger of white head that fades into a frothy ring with little lacing.
S: Some light grapefruit and pineapple notes with caramel malts up front. The finish is a little more earthy and piney.
T: Caramel malts here as well with pineapple, grapefruit, and citrus rind. The finish is sweet, lightly bitter, and a bit more earthy.
M: Medium body with low carbonation, this beer is oily slick.
O: A solid beer overall, and certainly drinkable, but lacks pungency from the hops. Everything is just a little muted. The beer also needs more carbonation.

A: The beer poured hazy amber orange into a thin pint glass.
S: Spicy rye on the nose light citrus flavor. Not tasting the citra hops. They are expensive, so brewer may have used more less expensive hops.
T: The malt is a bit overwhelming for this being a DIPA. Was really hoping for a better taste then what I've been told of this beer.
M: medium body. Pretty basic.
O: I was let down. Thought this would be more exciting. There are a lot better beers that cost the same. If the price was lower I'd feel better about buying this beer again.
