So this is a coffee porter with some story about a dude hiding money in his pipes. Tan head that doesn't last with a mostly black body with ruby at the tiniest edges. Nose is cocoa and caramel and molasses and toffee but kind of faint and enthusiastically.

The flavor is a lot of chocolate and caramel upfront converting to molasses against a solidifying resistance of hoppy bitterness. A bit of yeasty freshness dances around the main flavors. Texture is smooth and even, with just enough carbonation to carry the sip along.

This is solid but these guys' reputation rests on dark beers so maybe I was expecting a little more from this one.

Had a glass of this at Raleigh Brewing Company's taproom.

Look: dark, nearly black, minimal tan head
Smell: dark chocolate & black coffee
Taste: bitter coffee, chocolate, hint of malt... very good flavor
Feel: medium/heavy body & carbonation

Overall: really good offering by Raleigh Brew Co

Wow, huge flavors in this one. Coffee, chocolate malt, molasses, some dark fruit, Graham cracker and charred embers. Very light and easy to drink this is a real winner.

Served on-tap, came with high marks from our server at Fox and Hound in Raleigh.
Poured deep and dark, basically black, tan head that subsided slowly, lots of chunky lace.
The aroma has lots of sweet malt, dark chocolate, very nice and even better as it starts to warm up.
The flavor was the same, roasted malt, dark chocolate, hint of coffee at the end. Nicely balanced throughout.
It had a medium body, pushing full. Easy to drink.
Overall this was a very good beer, thanks for the recommendation.

Poured a dark brown body with two finger head and lace patches on top of an aroma that is roasted and sweet malt based, nothing too pronounced. Beer is medium bodied, smooth, good balance, simple use of both roasted/bready malts give it a fuller mouthfeel and there are sweet chocolate aspects that hit the spot. A rather simple porter with not too much going on but the stuff that is in there does the trick.

Poured on-tap and served in a shaker pint, the beer is jet black, with a light tan halo of head. Nose of subtle coffee roast, with molasses and chocolate highlights. Flavors are roasted forward, with a bitter backbone, roasted highlights, and hints of chocolate throughout. Bitter and roasted aftertaste on a dry, crisp body. The finish is dry and bitter, too. Good, solid representation for the style. Easy drinker.

Served from tap into a shaker pint. Poured a massively dark brown with a one finger tan head that subsided to half a finger slowly. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, dark chocolate, and milk chocolate. The flavor was of roasted malt, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and subtle dark fruit. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a fairly good brew. This actually had a pretty nice balance to it. Very easy to drink with the dark chocolate aspect going on. A nicely done brew that you should take the time to try. Tick.
