July 28th, 2015 - St. Florian's Flashover is a nice, biscuity brew, with a smear of marmalade mixed in on the nose. The flavor starts quiet, then explodes with fruits and orange jam, offering a rich and satisfying sweetness.

The balance of hops and malt is perfect to my tastes. It may not be for everyone but this is a nice balanced IPA.

On tap in a pint glass.
L: Pours a clear copper color with a 1-finger head that dissipated quickly but left some pretty lacing.
S: Not much nose at all. Slightly faint floral hops with some malt.
T/F: Flavor is like the nose, understated with nothing really standing out. Very bitter finish, which kind of overpowers the light taste.
O: In general, an OK beer, but too unbalanced and overly bitter. There are better options out there.

On tap at the source.
This is a very flawed IPA. No bright citrus. No pine. Bland hops, bland malt. All of this when cold. As it warms, it's a diactyl BOMB. Butter, butter, butter. Meh. Generous score to say the least.

Dark orangey amber with a modest foam in the wine glass. Herbal tea aroma. Green tea taste with that dirty leaf mold flavor. Slight sweet malt flavor with each sip. Then woody and astringent. Very bitter and quite unpleasant in the aftertaste. Brewery claims 75 IBUs but that again shows the unreliability of the IBU scale. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Healthy Spirits in San Francisco.

A: The beer is hazy dark yellowish amber in color—too hazy to see if there is any visible carbonation. It poured with a short white head that quickly died down, leaving some lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of piney and herbal hops are present in the nose along with underlying notes of caramel malts.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, except the underlying flavors of caramel malts are bit stronger, particularly as the beer warms up.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is an average IPA—it reminds me a lot like the early IPAs of the mid-2000s at the beginning of the craft beer movement as there is nothing overly special about the smell or taste of the hops.

Really well balanced. Has a lot of tropical notes and doesnt really hit you with the hops in any part of the palate(front, middle, back)
