As bottles aren't dated I don't know if it was fresh or not but there was absolutely zero hop smell or taste in this beer. It tasted, to me, like an old ale.

I was really surprised by this beer, especially due to the unusually low rating it got for being from Alpine. Overall I thought this was a great version of a style I'm not a huge fan of, but can enjoy under the right circumstances; case in point, I was enjoying a nice NY style pizza while this was in hand. They went wonderfully together. The maleness and overall light-flavored presense of this beer made both much more enjoyable.

Would have expected this to be rated a little bit higher on BA after tasting on tap...A nice hoppy pale ale. Good bitter bite but not to much for the style. Well done overall.

On-tap 4/18/2015 at Doherty’s Ale House, in Warwick, RI served in a snifter glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains caramelized malts, citrus and floral hops.

T: The taste starts out with a nice burst of earthy hops bitterness. Then some mildly sweet flavors of caramel and citrus come in. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a very solid beer to pound down for a long time.
