Notes: Formerly Hop Boxed, then Unboxed.

Windows Up is a single IPA made with Mosaic and Citra hops. It pours a hazy straw color and is topped with bright white beer foam. Piney aromas mingle with fruity notes, while hints of citrus fruit and an overall lingering resinous quality lend a touch of complexity to this dank IPA.

Straw and clean filtered with little carbonation and 3 fingers of white head.

Smells really dank, of catnip, green leaf, sage, as well as of pineapple and mangos.

Tastes of the same dank qualities as the nose, and is sweet and fruity as well, tropical fruits giving way to yellow jello.

Medium body with moderate to low carbonation. Really covers the ABV.

Got in Sacramento a couple weeks ago, drinking in Redding, Sept 16th, 2018. Excellent brew.

22 ounce with the Best By of some time in September 2016. Kind of already affects my tastebuds not knowing exactly when this was bottled. Just tell me when the shit was bottled.

Flavor and nose here show a bit of funk, citrusy notes, and a floral element. Light melon. Zesty grapefruit. Biscuity and lightly bready malt. Plenty of flavor. Plenty of aroma. Also a plenty of body.

A bit too much body actually. With the refreshing and light flavors, a lower ABV and body would have been more welcome. Still, it drinks cleanly, has a mellow bitterness and restrained malt presence.

Pretty solid thought the bottle dating pissed me the hell off.

Clear light orange with a thick finger of white head that leaves decent lacing.

Grapefruit, white pepper and tangerine pith in the nose.

The taste is more muted, with dull citrus and light pithy bitterness, then a fairly watery finish.

Light to medium bodied with a strong peppery prickliness in the mouthfeel.

Pretty good, but not in the same class as some of Alpine's other offerings.

Type: 16-oz. draft
Glass: Clear pint glass
From: Alpine Beer Company (brewery) in Alpine, Calif.
Price: $5.00
Purchased: Nov. 3, 2015
Consumed: Nov. 3, 2015
Misc.: Tried on release day

Poured a honey, golden, pale, clear color with two fingers of off-white fizzy head when I got it. Average amount of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Good amount of layered, foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Above average retention. (Sight - 4.00)

Smelled Mosaic, Citra, resin, orange blossom, light tropical and juicy orange, reminding me a lot of High Kicks I think. (Smell - 4.25)

Taste followed the nose nicely, maybe slightly more boozy. Got Mosaic, Citra, tropical pulp, light resin, bitter orange rind, earthy mango, caramel and Amarillo (I think). (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, abrupt, boozy finish. (Feel - 3.75)

Just another good ABC offering and I may have slightly underrated this overall. (Overall - 4.00)

Here is a copper-golden beer with a slight haze and a mid-sized white head. The aroma is a pleasant mix of herbal hops and sweet-smelling malt. Some pine and earth are notable as well. The taste has a little fruit up front, is tilted sweet, and has a serious intense bitterness. Full body. Drinkable and rewarding.

Alpine Beer Company "Windows Up"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "Best By 21 JUN 17" and sampled on 15 FEB 17
$3.49 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: I'm not sure what "Windows Up" refers to but I'm guessing it's a marijuana reference. Nice pour. Big frothy head of white. Hazy amber body with golden highlights. Head seems to drop fairly quickly though. The aroma is magnificent. Bright hop resins, wet pine, and citrus. Should I wait for it to warm to see what else I find? Nah. Much more tropical in the flavor with pineapple, papaya, mango, peach, apricot, and soft grapefruit that lingers in the finish. It's kind of raspy and citrus-pith-like in the finish. Dry, bitter, and subtly spicy. The lacing is pretty good despite the fact that the head dropped to what is now a complete surface covering that's a little thin in the middle but still fairly thick and creamy along the walls. Nice. I've got some bubbles on the side of the glass, I guess it wasn't "beer clean" and maybe that hurt the head. Back to the aroma... some softer pine like dried needles, earth, cattiness, tangerine. The flavor remains very much the same. It's solidly bitter, maybe even boldly bitter, and although it's fruity and malt sweet prior to the swallow, it definitely dries and becomes quite bitter. It's not harsh or raspy though, but sock solid. Body? Medium. Moderate, fine-bubbled carbonation leaves it smooth - ah, there's the head retention - an OK trade-off for the smoother mouthfeel. The lacing remains quite good, leaving small mountains rising beneath a cloudy sky. The malt I think is the only thing I missed. It's pretty straightforward golden malt with a light edge of caramel. Biscuity. Overall nicely balanced. Really great fresh hop aroma. Ah, I just looked at the label, it states Mosaic hops. I didn't find any of the berry that I usually find, but with another sip, yep it's there. Pretty nice. I'm not sure if this is my favorite beer - no, I am sure, it's not - from Alpine but it's damned good.

Aroma is medium dank/nutty hops and citrus/grapefruit. The flavor is grapefruit, tropical fruit, nutty in the middle, malts and a citrus/spicy/bitter hop finish.

Appearance; orange in color with a nice 2" head that lasted a bit.

Smell: orange, tropical fruits, and a mild floral aroma is pleasant.

Taste: caramel, pineapple, lemon zest, orange, mango, and a bit of floral and earthy bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp throughout.

Overall: a really good IPA that was well balanced and satisfying.

12oz bottle dated best before July 31, 2017.. So I have no idea how fresh this is. $3.15 for a single at Lazy Dog, ouch.

Pours sparkling clear gold with a copper hue. Minimal head and retention. Aromatics are filled with tropical fruit and a dank backbone. Apricot and garlic. Medium bodied with a crisp mouthfeel. Ripe citrus with a hint of malt on the palate. Medium bitterness and a bit juicy. Tangerines up front with some pine in the back. Finishes with some lingering tropical notes and pretty dry.

Tasty beer, but a bit underwhelming in the hop department given it's an Alpine. Certainly not worth $18.00 out of my wallet for a six pack.
