Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Notes / Commercial Description:
A West Coast IPA that features Amarillo and Simcoe hops "in harmony," giving a light, floral aroma. Duet is nicely bitter with the perfect amount of malt concealed behind the hoppy goodness. Immensely drinkable, amazingly light on its feet.

I'm not super into West Coast IPAs, but there is something about this one that is special.
L: Clear, dark yellow/orange in color, carbonation looks cool as hell. Head was originally about 1 finger and has excellent retention. Tons of lace.
S: Relatively light aroma, sweet malt, somewhat reminds me of brown sugar and honey. Hops are more on the floral side on the nose. Sweet orange as well, maybe a touch of melon in there too
T: Very well balanced, definite sweetness that is not overdone. Very clean. Finishes with a sharp bitterness but it is restrained perfectly. A bit of orange and grapefruit pith as well.
F: Some astringency, more creamy than it is crisp, as the carbonation is soft.
O: Really surprised by this beer, very glad i had it, and would absolutely recommend.

A-Kept this on in the bottle...hotel beers!
S-Mostly Simcoe on the nose, with Amarillo orange following up
M-Higher end carbonation, a resinous finish on the mouthfeel
T-Illusion is sweetness upfront with a smooth piney bitter finish
O-This is a wonderfully balanced IPA

maybe it was the timing, weather, date, time , location or ambiance, whatever..but a very well made smooth IPA.... I still prefer another comparable brand (SN)... but this is (was?) well done. Duet is now one of the few brewed bottles that reside in the bars refrigerator!!! Well done

Pours do you see golden in color with a very light beige head standing at about 2 inches. The nose is a little more paint and then I was expecting with a bit of citrus rind on the smell. Flavor is pure west coast IPA with tons of juicy citrus. The flavor profile is crisp and orange with a hint of citrus rind. Very flavorful IPA with very little malt to get in the way.

Aroma is fruity and mellow. Orange, apricot, and a hint of cannabis. Taste follows suit: bright and fruity with a nice bitter bite. Malts are pretty subdued, just a hint of cracker. Bitterness and a little heat make a pleasing aftertaste. This is not as citrus-focused as your average west coast IPA, but is a wonderful diversion.

Look: It pours golden with slight haze. It has a moderate off white head with visible lace.

Smell: It has aromas of citrus and apricot.

Taste: There are flavors of citrus, apricot and low, light caramel.

Feel: It has a medium body. The bitter finish is moderate and lasts long into the finish.

Overall, it is an easy drinking IPA with a good bitter finish without being harsh.

Pours a clear crisp orange color with a thin white head. Head dissipates rather quickly leaving some small white foam spots.

Smell has aromas of orange, grapefruit, orange zest, pine, with some floral undertones.

Taste follows the nose with notes of orange, orange zest, grapefruit with a just as prominent pine-y bitterness. Strong caremly but not super sweet tasting malt backbone provides a nice balance. Lots of piney bitterness throughout with a dry sappy finish.

Feel is a bit heavy for an IPA. Sweetness coats the mouth as you drink it. Medium carbonation provides a slight tingle initially for just a moment.

Overall a fine example of a classic west coast IPA. Great beer that is a must try at least once, although you'll likely drink it again.

Amazing brew.

got it as part of the green flash 24 pk at costco

Although a west coast IPA, it is not a hop bomb and intense. The two hops simcoe and amarillo make for a more subtle, mellow and floral ipa

Comes out with some orange and mild amber color notes, white head 1/2". Really good notes of tropical fruit, sage, pine consistently given from Amarillo hops and Simcoe to a lesser extent.

Almost always consistent, a hop head dream, nice fruit forward hop notes without grating bitterness, a malt body that is toasted, not overly thick crystal malt caramel overload and mouthfeel fatigue.

Cool its now in a 6 pack, 12 oz bottles after the Green Flash purchase, any drop off in quality is offset by the better format and wider availability.

Just another great beer by Alpine Beer Company. Don't expect the hop explosion that Pure Hoppiness brings, obviously. Balanced and more than drinkable, this is going into my rotation.

Pours a clear golden orange with a thin off-white head. Aromas of mango, peach, and some evergreen. Taste begins dry with a hint of apricot, followed by some mango, then a hint of water cracker, and a huge finale of grapefruit rind, pine and a hint of tobacco. Mouthfeel is excellent. Overall an outstanding beer.

Second Alpine beer. Here's hoping that it's as good as Hoppy Birthday. Here goes:

A: Slightly hazy orange. Very translucent, however. Good body carbonation, but the head and lacing leave something to be desired.

S: Oranges, lemon peel, grapefruit and pine (lots of these), and sweet caramel malt. Very good.

T: Follows the nose; great balance of malt and hops, as the name implies. Very robust.

F: Great. Nice and smooth. Little heavy, though.

O: A good beer. Will have again. More flavorful that hoppy birthday, but I still prefer the other more given its much higher drinkability

Big West Coast IPA flavor, this one has hops all the way through. Smell, taste and the bitter mouthfeel. Loving hops is a must with this brew. Taste lingers long after sip. A must for IPA lovers, this is a strong but solid west coast IPA.

Pours a clear pale gold with medium head and some residual lacing. Nose is very light compared to expectations. Just a little citrus fruit and pine, but not what you would expect given the scores others have given. Taste has a little more to it. Initial light fruit sweetness followed by a rush of bitterness and pine. Not entirely well balanced. Overall, I liked the beer, but I'm seriously wondering what beer I'm drinking compared to the beer that's got a 4.3 average score here.

Pours a clear, yet fairly dark golden color with a small head.

Smells intensively of citrus-laden hops. There is also some exotic fruit in the nose, pineapple comes to mind.

Taste is surprisingly subtle for a West Coast IPA. Mouthfeel is light, and quite juicy. Taste is defined by citra, pineapple, some slight malt. A lot of general sweetness as well.

This is a very enjoyable IPA, but I wouldn't call it great. But I would definitely down a lot of these if they were distributed around here.

Had this on 2016-04-31 in Lancaster, PA at The Fridge on-tap

A - Fairly-clear olden-orange with 1/2-finger head and mild lace.

S - Pineapple, pine, papaya, orange, hop bud. Very nice.

T - Pineapple, orange flesh and zest, biscuit, light caramel, pine, moderately bitter finish. Nicely balanced.

M - Medium body and light-medium carbonation. Resinous, thick and prickly. Good feel.

O - Very flavorful. My favorite of the Green Flash / Alpine brews. Will have this again.

Top notch IPA. Exceptional smooth weather on draft or from a bomber. Very drinkable IPA. Pine and citrus flavors with just the right amount of bitterness.

Pours a slightly hazy standard amber in color with a lightly tanned 2 inch thick head. lacing is present, but not plentiful.

Earthy aromas of fresh cut grass are noticeable first, balanced with tropical fruit of mango and orange.

Very fruit forward with mango and oranges. Finishes with both a caramel sweetness and a piney bitterness. Well balanced.

Creamy and dry with a medium body. Low to medium carbonation.

Excellent ipa. Hoppy and yet still balanced. I'm very happy with all the diffrent hop flavors in this. Piney, citrus, and fruit flavors and aromas. Overall a very good representation of a west coast ipa.

Wow. Great stuff. Pop the cap and you smell the hops. So fruity, a little pine for bitterness. So easy to drink. Went way too fast. Will seek out more and look for it a little fresher.

Pours clear, orange-yellow in color with 1/3 inch head. Taste is pine and big tropical fruit, mango, orange, and lemon. Light toasted malt and cracker give the beer balance. Slightly bitter, but nicely balanced. Real treat of an IPA. I could do several of these.

Beautiful bottle shape with an great label. Poured into a nonic pint glass.

A - golden amber with a frothy white pillow of a head that settles to a cloudy ring of lace leaving good stick.

S - bright hop profile with tropical, floral and citrus notes. Hints of ripe strawberry and candied malt. Absolute brilliant smelling.

T - perfectly balanced hop notes with tropical and citrus blending like the wonderful duet they are. Floral hop character as this warms while the candied sugar malt adds enough sweetness makes you want more.

M - excellent thickness and texture that has superb drinkability. A tasty bitterness only adds to its complexity with its unbelievable Gushing flavor.

O - I had Duet a few years ago on a trip to California, and boy am I glad to see it finally reach my home. This is a world class ipa that is the same as the first time I experienced it. The craft beer world is changing and growing bigger, but as long as these world beaterm recipes stay the same we will continue to fill our glass with sheer quality like Duet. Duet is one hell of an ipa and stacks up to anything I've ever had. Perfection in a bottle. As the bottle says.. Drink Alpine Ale or go to bed!

This is a very satisfying IPA. Poured 12 oz bottle into standard pint glass. Golden amber color, clear, with vibrant floral and citrus aromas hitting me before the first sip. The caramel malt is also in the smell. Orange, grapefruit, apricot, and tropical fruit come thru in the taste, balance well with the malt to smooth out the hoppy bitterness, so we'll done. Juicy mouthfeel, with a bit of hops bite in the finish. Recommended.

A - typical crystal clear amber, golden beer with nice white head that leaves good lacing
S - lots of pine and grapefruit, slight strawberry, very classic west coast iPa
T- also lots of grapefruit, pine, very bitter, clean drinking with a solid bitterness that lingers once you're finished
M - light to medium mouthfeel, alcohol covered, aftertaste pine and grapefruit bitterness
O- very standard, clean drinking west coast ipa, nothing insane, but exactly what it's supposed to be

Honey amber in color; thick, sticky, white head; thick, foamy rings of lacing down the glass. Heady floral and strawberry aroma. Bold hop bitterness with a mild cereal grain malt backbone. Medium-heavy body; slightly coarse and ticklish on the palate; gentle sweetness yet finishes dry.

A very, very fine IPA with an outstanding aroma and excellent all-around flavor and balance. The taste delivers a juicy, orange-like sweetness before the intense hop bitterness kicks in with a nearly tart, grapefruit-like quality. Most satisfying...
