Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Notes / Commercial Description:
A West Coast IPA that features Amarillo and Simcoe hops "in harmony," giving a light, floral aroma. Duet is nicely bitter with the perfect amount of malt concealed behind the hoppy goodness. Immensely drinkable, amazingly light on its feet.

Golden yellow in color with an orange hue and a light haze. Poured with a short, bright, creamy white foam with good retention. Medium high, ripe pineapple and tropical fruit aromas with medium malt aromas and a light bready note at the end. Medium bodied with a rich, creamy feel and soft, medium light carbonation. Pleasant boozy warmth from the middle to the end. Medium high ripe pineapple and tropical fruit flavors up front followed by light spicy hop flavors and medium hop bitterness through the middle. Medium malty flavor beneath. Finished semi-dryly with a light bready maly flavor that quickly transitions to a mellow bitter hoppy aftertaste. Smooth, flavorful, mellow, very easy drinking ipa.

1 PT. 6 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a tulip glass

This beer pours a brilliant golden color with three inches of fluffy, beige head that leaves a little lacing.

I get some citrus and pine aromas with some malt coming through. It smells old.

The taste is extremely bitter. It is not what I remember from having it on draft. I fear that I got duped into buying an old bottle.

Medium to light mouthfeel

The clown at the bottle shop told me they got this beer in within the last two weeks. I should have went with my gut and passed. It is an old bottle. I will revisit this one.

Very solid beer. Classic IPA aroma's and flavors. Would drink a 6 pack of this any day. Although it would prefer Hoppy Birthday. Beautiful spotty lacing though.

Nice light golden color with white cap which diminishes rather quickly as does the lacing.

A clean aroma of pine, citrus and slightly earthy hops. Little malt apparent.

Flavor is hop forward but mild. Malt is present in the body but doesn't stand out, or even much make it's presence known for that matter. Hops start, follow through and finish with the pine more present in the aftertaste.

Texture is medium.

Overall a solid IPA without any major flaws that I can spot. Nothing really outstanding either, rather middle of the pack performance.

On tap: poured into a shaker pint, color is gold, head was bright white, not much lingering.

Aroma is grapefruit rind, citrus, lemon; then some lighter earthier notes, a bit subdued.

Taste comes through full, fresh and hoppy with a nice clean pale malt backbone. Hops are citrusy, grapefruit prominent. Malt is clean, not over sweet.

Mouthfeel is crisp, clean and dry, quite good.

Overall, a beer that does not present big but comes through in the finish - great flavor and presence.

Pours a light clear Amber. Smells of light floral and citrus. Taste of citrus. Grapefruit, light orange and lemon. Sight bit of pine that leads to a floral after taste. Nice bitter bite but it is not overdone and is balanced. Finishes crisp and clean. Light mouthfeel. Excellent IPA

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a snifter. Best by date is 7/28/16 for what it's worth.

Pours a somewhat hazy, golden-orange color. Very small, foamy, white head with minimal retention.

Strong aromas of grapefruit, orange, and tangerine accompanied by milder piney hop notes.

Taste mimics aromas well with notes of citrus, orange rind, and piney hops.

Light-medium bodied, smooth, and crisp.

Overall, a good IPA. Nice citrus and fruity flavors accompanied by just enough bitter hoppiness. Well balanced. Very drinkable. Would like to try this one fresher.

On tap at the Office in Summit. I was really looking forward to trying this beer after having read the great reviews about it, and it didn't disappoint. A smooth, well-balanced, easily drinkable IPA bursting with strong nuances of hops, pines, grapefruit, citrus, and lemon zest. Recommended highly.

12oz bottle, best by 08 SEP 16
A - hazy deep golden body capped with a foamy ivory head
S - zesty citrus and pine with some caramel malt and grain
T - bitter pine, pungent grapefruit zest, orange zest, caramel malt and toasty grain; immensely bitter with a pleasant malt backbone
M - medium body, nice carbonation, resinous and finishes bitter with pine lingering
O - as I began to review this beer, I was thinking it was going to fall short of expectations, but as I drank more, it got better and better. The piney hop resins stuck to the palate allowing bitterness to build, yet the malt backbone held up nicely. This is both a duet of hops and a duet of great harmony between hops and malt.

A: [3.75] Beer is a nice apricot color. It forms a full finger of white head with medium bubbles. The bottle lists the ABV (7.0%) it has a best by date (07/28/2016).

S: [3.00] Musty hop scent. Like decent hops that got wet and then left for a while.

T: [3.50] Orange is the predominant flavor. I got a lot of orange up front and then again on the finish - but more as a orange rind flavor.

M: [3.25] Body is medium with light carbonation.

O: [3.25] This went past the best by 3 days ago. So it is older - but it should still hold up. It does seem to have a faded flavor. The malts are no where to be found. This is a bit of a "meh" beer.

I found this to be a favorite west coast IPA. Up there with Stone, Green Flash, etc. Try 24.

A: Pours with a fluffy 1 finger head with ample, ciderish sediment along with a brassy, honey colored body, and lasting lace.

S: Abundant hops to start, then pine, mixed lots of citrus and must. Earthy, vivid.

T: Starts with fresh wet hop and follows into pine hop resins. Complex juicy citric, tangerine fruits, and dancing into peppery bitterness and more Juicy and grassy hops. A veggie blend. Not much malt.

F: Good feel, light syrup, with decent carbonation.

O: Feels bright and tingly. Finishes clean as well. Try 24.

Fruity, piney, quite malty, creamy and overall balanced. I don't ride the ipa D wagon as I prefer apa's or dipa's but this I would buy again.

Very much reminds me of lagunitas brown shugga at 7% as opposed to 10%.

I'm not super into West Coast IPAs, but there is something about this one that is special.
L: Clear, dark yellow/orange in color, carbonation looks cool as hell. Head was originally about 1 finger and has excellent retention. Tons of lace.
S: Relatively light aroma, sweet malt, somewhat reminds me of brown sugar and honey. Hops are more on the floral side on the nose. Sweet orange as well, maybe a touch of melon in there too
T: Very well balanced, definite sweetness that is not overdone. Very clean. Finishes with a sharp bitterness but it is restrained perfectly. A bit of orange and grapefruit pith as well.
F: Some astringency, more creamy than it is crisp, as the carbonation is soft.
O: Really surprised by this beer, very glad i had it, and would absolutely recommend.

A-Kept this on in the bottle...hotel beers!
S-Mostly Simcoe on the nose, with Amarillo orange following up
M-Higher end carbonation, a resinous finish on the mouthfeel
T-Illusion is sweetness upfront with a smooth piney bitter finish
O-This is a wonderfully balanced IPA

maybe it was the timing, weather, date, time , location or ambiance, whatever..but a very well made smooth IPA.... I still prefer another comparable brand (SN)... but this is (was?) well done. Duet is now one of the few brewed bottles that reside in the bars refrigerator!!! Well done

Pours do you see golden in color with a very light beige head standing at about 2 inches. The nose is a little more paint and then I was expecting with a bit of citrus rind on the smell. Flavor is pure west coast IPA with tons of juicy citrus. The flavor profile is crisp and orange with a hint of citrus rind. Very flavorful IPA with very little malt to get in the way.

Aroma is fruity and mellow. Orange, apricot, and a hint of cannabis. Taste follows suit: bright and fruity with a nice bitter bite. Malts are pretty subdued, just a hint of cracker. Bitterness and a little heat make a pleasing aftertaste. This is not as citrus-focused as your average west coast IPA, but is a wonderful diversion.

Look: It pours golden with slight haze. It has a moderate off white head with visible lace.

Smell: It has aromas of citrus and apricot.

Taste: There are flavors of citrus, apricot and low, light caramel.

Feel: It has a medium body. The bitter finish is moderate and lasts long into the finish.

Overall, it is an easy drinking IPA with a good bitter finish without being harsh.

Pours a clear crisp orange color with a thin white head. Head dissipates rather quickly leaving some small white foam spots.

Smell has aromas of orange, grapefruit, orange zest, pine, with some floral undertones.

Taste follows the nose with notes of orange, orange zest, grapefruit with a just as prominent pine-y bitterness. Strong caremly but not super sweet tasting malt backbone provides a nice balance. Lots of piney bitterness throughout with a dry sappy finish.

Feel is a bit heavy for an IPA. Sweetness coats the mouth as you drink it. Medium carbonation provides a slight tingle initially for just a moment.

Overall a fine example of a classic west coast IPA. Great beer that is a must try at least once, although you'll likely drink it again.

Amazing brew.

got it as part of the green flash 24 pk at costco

Although a west coast IPA, it is not a hop bomb and intense. The two hops simcoe and amarillo make for a more subtle, mellow and floral ipa

Comes out with some orange and mild amber color notes, white head 1/2". Really good notes of tropical fruit, sage, pine consistently given from Amarillo hops and Simcoe to a lesser extent.

Almost always consistent, a hop head dream, nice fruit forward hop notes without grating bitterness, a malt body that is toasted, not overly thick crystal malt caramel overload and mouthfeel fatigue.

Cool its now in a 6 pack, 12 oz bottles after the Green Flash purchase, any drop off in quality is offset by the better format and wider availability.

Just another great beer by Alpine Beer Company. Don't expect the hop explosion that Pure Hoppiness brings, obviously. Balanced and more than drinkable, this is going into my rotation.

Pours a clear golden orange with a thin off-white head. Aromas of mango, peach, and some evergreen. Taste begins dry with a hint of apricot, followed by some mango, then a hint of water cracker, and a huge finale of grapefruit rind, pine and a hint of tobacco. Mouthfeel is excellent. Overall an outstanding beer.

Second Alpine beer. Here's hoping that it's as good as Hoppy Birthday. Here goes:

A: Slightly hazy orange. Very translucent, however. Good body carbonation, but the head and lacing leave something to be desired.

S: Oranges, lemon peel, grapefruit and pine (lots of these), and sweet caramel malt. Very good.

T: Follows the nose; great balance of malt and hops, as the name implies. Very robust.

F: Great. Nice and smooth. Little heavy, though.

O: A good beer. Will have again. More flavorful that hoppy birthday, but I still prefer the other more given its much higher drinkability
