Glad I got to partake of prototypic's growler.

A - This beer has a healthy amount of gold color with some light amber in the background. The eggshell head is light and sticks around for maybe a minute or two. It recedes to a cap that barely covers the top of the brew. Lacing has a definite presence. Color is lighter than expected but that isn't always a bad thing.

S - Starts with sweet citrus right off the bat. Maybe some blood orange with a little mango backing it up. Aroma gives way to a more bitter grapefruit around midway. Tobacco pop in midway to end. Alcohol pretty well hidden in the aroma. Light caramel and bread are present on a very distant tail end.

T - Taste somewhat follows aroma. Sweeter fruitiness up front. I'm getting orange, mango, and tangerine. Bitterness is more pronounced in the flavor. Grapefruit is in the mix but seems to get overcome by an earthy / piney flavor. Tobacco and grass come in around midway and stay through til the end. Finishes off with cookie dough...orange flavored cookie dough. Alcohol is noted but it ties in well with the other flavors.

M - Medium bodied with a fairly light carbonation. Finish is very dry and abuses the palate (in a good way).

D - Drinkability is good for a beer o this stature. It pretty much fits a bill that any hophead could come to love. All the flavors come together in a balance that makes this brew pretty special - sweet and bitter hops, malt backbone, ABV that stays mostly out of the way, etc. Hands down, one of my favorite Alpine brews to date.

Best DIPA ive ever had. it is a hop monster but so drinkable, if it was available consistently it would dethrone Heady topper, which in my opinion is highly overrated.

Pours oily copper with a small white head. Sweet, floral aroma of tropical fruits, grapefruit, and sweet bread. Super-sweet resiny hops up front and throughout. Good amount of oranges, nectarines, and kiwi fruit flavors, but very little pine. Sticky caramel finish.

On Tap

Alpine Beer Company Pub
Alpine, CA

Clear, light golden yellow in color with a loose, big bubbled, near-white head that leaves ribbons of stick down the glass.

Incredible aroma. I could smell how pungent and bright this beer smelled even as the waitress placed it down in front of me. The aroma is a big, powerful combination of citrus (orange and grapefruit) and big notes of pine forest. This would make for a wonderful air freshener for my car. This stuff smells great!

The flavor is big, bold, and aggressive. The bitterness is fairly high with lots of pine/resin/marijuana flavors. There's some mild citrus present as well, but this is big, dank, and piney. Very nice.

Medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation.

Just fantastic. This isn't as unique or interesting a beer as Nelson, but it's just as good as Pure Hoppiness, and in my opinion, better than Exponential Hoppiness.

On tap at the FW invitational. Came out a slightly darker, light brown dark orange pour compared to their many other excellent hoppy beers. Somehow the head and lacing were pretty damn impressive here. Aroma, usual mix of simcoe and amarillo I would suspect, but since its Alpine, it has that extra deliciousness going for it. Enjoyable musty light onion and sweetgrass almost makes me think about sauvin and summit hops.

Big hop flavor, pine resin, herb resin, light fruit, warming alcohol nowhere near as strong as 9% usually tastes. Good bitterness, not grating, but not nonexistant green lushness either. Best of both worlds. Super dry finish and mouthfeel like all of Alpine's hoppy beers.

There's nothing really to set this apart, for better or worse, from Alpine's big lineup of ipas. Which means its awesome just like the rest of them.

This beer pours a golden yellow color with a thick, fluffy, off white head, with a slight yellow tint to it. The head fades so very slowly, leaving a thick coating of lace.

This beer has a massive hop aroma. I smell sweet piney hops mostly. Lots of grassy aroma also. It is quite citrusy also. I am really enjoying the aroma of this one.

The flavor is not a let down either. It is very aggressive. Loads of piney hops, and a massive grassy flavor. It has a slight grapefruity citrus flavor as well. The 9% ABV is well hidden in the flavor.

This beer is very full bodied. It is quite aggressive. It leaves a piney aftertaste. It is carbonated well for the style.

Although this beer is a high ABV, and it is quite aggressive, I think personally, this beer could be a good session beer. It tastes great.

Overall: Get this beer if you can. You wont be sorry. WOW.
