On-tap at the brewery.

SAE amber/gamboge body supports a lasting raft leaving behind fine soapy lacing. Superior retention; decent clarity.

Clean almost nutty aroma with low earthy hop notes.

Medium-dry, peppery, slightly dank palate entry with a bitter earthy finish and some residual sweetness. Hints of citrus, chestnut, and some malt complexity (though not like an amber). Reminds me of a clean ESB but with American yeast and hops...

Warming, almost tannic mouth-feel.

An unusual IPA, and not the bracing tropical hop-bomb I might have been anticipating.

Copper color, 1/2" white head. Aroma hit the hoppy grapefruit smells.

Taste imparted more bitterness than flavor, not usually what these guys have going on. Had to search for the citrus and tropical notes, but perhaps the beer was just served to cold, because as it warmed more and more of the fruit hop notes came out. Still felt heavier than it was I think at any temperature.

Type: 64-oz. growler
Glass: Beer Nerd tulip glass
From: Alpine Beer Company in Alpine, Calif.
Price: $12.96
Purchased: Sept. 15 2015
Consumed: Sept. 15, 2015
Misc.: N/A

Poured a caramel, orange, slightly hazy color with two ringers of frothy off-white head. Some bubble streams coming up on the sides of the glass. Very good circular, foamy, spiderweb lacing on the sides of the glass. Above average retention on the top of the glass. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled a potent whiff of tropical, Citra, floral, mango, pine, juicy nectarine, orange juice and I think Amarillo. Awesome on the nose. (Smell - 4.50)

Taste followed the nose, although not quite as good. Got tropical, mango, red grapefruit, Galaxy, onions, vegetables, juicy orange, nectarine, peach, Citra and earthy, bitter grapefruit rind. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter, earthy finish. (Feel - 3.75)

This was a good IPA, but I may have slightly overrated it. It wasn’t near perfect with the sight and nose much better than the taste/feel. Will still enjoy the rest of this growler though. (Overall - 4.00)
