On tap at the brewpub in Alpine.

Appearance: Clear red-amber with a durable bone-colored head that leaves a fairly full coating on the glass.

Aroma: Hops (mainly herbal).

Flavor: sweet up front and only modearate bitterness at its peak. Obvious sweet malts balancing a relatively high hop load. The hop flavor builds over time peaking in the aftertaste. Very malty for APA style.

Feel: Light-medium body with near medium carbonation.

O: a bold and hoppy red ale. Recommended.

Picked up a growler at Alpine Brewing for $12. and poured it into an Odell branded stemmed tulip glass.

Alpine Brewery's beer board states 6.5% ABV, not 6.2% as shown above.

Pours a clean burnt orange hue with golden edges when held up to a light source, fat tan head with ridiculous amounts of lacing that coat the inside of my glass from start to finish. Smell is fresh and grassy - like sniffing a bag of fresh hop pellets from the local home brew shop, fresh milled grain, taffy and tropical fruit. Flavor is sweet, lightly roasted malt up front, but fresh grassy hops hit the palate almost immediately after and stick around for a while - resinous and bitter. Great balance of flavors, but as one would expect from Alpine, the hop wins out in the long run. Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium bodied, perfect carbonation for the style, finishes dry, with tons of bitter resinous hop oils lingering on the palate for a while.
