On tap at Toronado SD, poured a sturdy red and light brown to it, barely any head to the beer. Aroma was faint, if not nonexistant.

Taste, a little bit hoppy for style, just barely, mouthfeel was a little thin compared to expectations built off it being from Alpine, at Toronado, and the appearance itself. A little toasty bread with the usual red base malts lead to somewhat of a letdown. Minimal bitterness. Not bad, just pedestrian. Barely an upgrade over something like Killians.

Red leaning darker into light brown territory, very small 1/6" head on it. Aroma was pretty faint in terms of hops and malt.

Taste imparted a little more hops, mouthfeel came in under expected malt heft. Mildly toasted red malts, average bitterness. I really expected a highly hopped west coast red ipa or something along those lines.

Funny, Toronado and Alpine, not quite up to par for both excellent places.

On-tap at Toronado SD

A: The pour is a pretty interesting color. Deep, dark red, perhaps garnet with a thin off-white head.

S: The nose is pretty bland, unfortunately. Maybe some toffee and caramel, a hint of cacao. No hops to be seen, which is odd for an Alpine beer.

T: The flavor is a little bit better, but not by much. Some toffee, bread, toasted malt, and some molasses. A light bitterness and some burnt sugar.

M: The mouthfeel is decent: medium body and carbonation.

D: One of the few Alpine beers that is just plain bland. At least the bad fruit flavored ones have a strong flavor to them.

This beer is identical to McIlhenney's Irish Red, but Toronado SD brands it as Toronado Red for inexplicable reasons. Tulip glass.

A: Pours a deep, reddish amber with a finger of light khaki head. Some minimal streaks of lacing, but thick foam sits around the ring of the glass for awhile.

S: Sweet amber malt with some good complexity, caramel and even a little spiced cherry, which I think is contributing a little acidity.

T: Amber/pale malt, nutty (almond), molasses, with a lengthy, malty, and slightly spicy finish. Off dry.

M: Medium-light carbonation and medium-full body with a thickness/creaminess.

O: Very malty, enough so that it's fatiguing to drink anywhere near a pint. Maybe it's the style, but I don't really see myself drinking much of this again.
