Notes / Commercial Description:
So mega-hopped it will take you to hop heaven. We’ve used hops in the boil, more hops in the giant hopback, and added to that, an incredible amount of dry-hopping for that cutting-edge “hop bite.” Once you’ve tasted this unique beer, all others pale in comparison. 1.072 OG Classified IBU

Appearance: Yellow-gold, good head.

Smell: Strong, pithy citrus, a touch of garlic.

Taste: Piney first, then solid malt body, then a ton of hop flavor on the finish with citrus peel and black pepper, quite bitter.

Overall: Alpine just came to the MN/WI area so I've been grabbing bottles as I see them. Pure Hoppiness just barely misses the mark for me, a little too bitter and I'm getting a little onion/garlic from it too. I suppose that's fine, this 6er was about $5 more than the other Alpines I like better!

Pours a slightly cloudy, golden orange color with a thin white head. There is some soapy lacing and good carbonation. The odor for me is powerful, citrus, mandarin, grapefruit, mango, apricot, peach, pineapple, resin, pine, honey, malty. The taste for me is fruity, peach, mandarin, orange, grapefruit, honey, pine, herbal, cracker, malt, slight garlic, spice, herbal bitter dry finish.

This is just one of those double ipas that is so damn easy to drink. One of those beers where you just enjoy each sip like a soda. It reminds me of Tree House - Haze, just not quite as good, but relatively close...and that says a lot. A little pricey for a 6er but I will definitely pick up a fresh one around if I see it once in a while.

Poured a cloudy orange-amber body with a thin cap of white head. Overall impression of appearance is of a nice DIPA, true to form. Scents of tropical fruit, especially pineapple and citrus fruit, particularly tangerine upfront, leading into grassy and resinous, piney hop aromas and light vegetal, onion-like hop aromas supporting. A solid, light aroma of caramel from malt provides backing for the hop derived aromas, while light warm, spicy alcohol provides further depth. Overall impression of aroma is of a very well done West Coast style DIPA. It provides a massive amount of hop aromas but balances them with a solid malt backbone that serves to further highlight the intense hop aromas and contrast them with the malt. Flavor begins massively hoppy, with high bitterness. Hop notes are of pine resin and grassy hops in the foreground with very light tangerine in the background while grapefruit peel dominates the citrus flavors overall. A light hint of caramel is detectable in the background, as is biscuity pale malt. Middle gains in bitterness imparting flavors of grapefruit peel, pine resin and bitter juniper berries. Finish is again, highly bitter with flavors of bitter juniper berries, pepper and spicy alcohol evident, along with pine resin and grapefruit peel. Aftertaste is of grapefruit peel, spicy, peppery hops and pine resin, with light notes of biscuity malt. Overall impression of flavor is of an extremely hoppy DIPA. It overwhelms with the most bitter of the hop flavors, yet remains very pleasant as it showcases these flavors well and demonstrates the enjoyment that can be gained from bitterness in taste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium-light carbonation and a slick, oily feel with a light warmth from alcohol. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a very good DIPA, no problems. Overall this is a fantastic DIPA that demonstrates the bitter side of hops. The aroma is rich and varied providing the normal West Coast bouquet, while the flavor goes into the most bitter of the rich array of flavors hops impart and in doing so provides a very pleasing experience, one aided by the superb mouthfeel. A very good example of a DIPA.

Poured from a bottled into a goblet. About a half inch of off-white foam that dissipated quickly into a skim of bubbles. Nose is piney hops with a hint of malt. Hops are very forward but the malt smooths things out quickly. Mouthfeel is crisp and refreshing, could be chewier for a Double IPA. Overall an enjoyable, well-balanced brew that paired well with English Cheddar.

I think this is a great beer and I drink and enjoy a lot of great IPAs however this one just had that slight onion bitter I don't enjoy. But that being said, easily drinkable solid beer. Just not my favorite
