Alpine Beer Company
California, United States

Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
So mega-hopped it will take you to hop heaven. We’ve used hops in the boil, more hops in the giant hopback, and added to that, an incredible amount of dry-hopping for that cutting-edge “hop bite.” Once you’ve tasted this unique beer, all others pale in comparison. 1.072 OG Classified IBU

Ok, I'll be the stick in the mud.

I can think of 10-20 DIPA's I would rather drink . This was an expensive six-pack ($17) that didn't live up to it's price tag. Maybe that's not a fair way to judge this beer, but so be it.

Overall, this is an above average beer, however, the price and hype surrounding this brew demands greatness. It didn't happen for me.

The aroma was definitely the standout on this one. A nose full of piney goodness. Resiny with a touch of citrus and dank. The body was crisp and quaffable. There's nothing wrong with being "above average", but I was hoping for an experience that didn't happen.

Has a great aroma and a great bite. But a little too light of a feel for my preference. Overall very good ipa

Poured from a 12oz bottle. Have heard good things about this beer, and was hoping to enjoy it...can't say it lived up to expectations.

A: golden amber, white head, very little lacing

S: pine, earthy, dank hops

T: grassy, resiney, bitter

M: medium body, dry finish

O: decent offering if you like grassy, resiney, hoppy DIPA's. Not one of my favorites...sorry Alpine/Green Flash.

Tough to explore new double IPAs in that I'm attached to some outstanding ones: chillwave, double jack, dirt wolf, manta ray... pure hoppiness did NOT disappoint

Went to ABC this morning while running errands. I picked up a pure hoppiness and a mandarin nectar. Pure Hoppiness was the much better beer in my opinion.
Poured a dark golden/light amber. Not a ton of lacing but a decent amount, 1 inch head.
Smell was a highly citrus mix, like a citrus bowl. Some piney notes and not much malt smell to it. Just a little at the end, overall lemon, orange, grapefruit dominate the smell.
Taste is freaking delicious, I was a huge hop head for awhile and kinda got burned out after tasting so many IPA's. This beer rekindled my love for hops! It tastes like it smells expect a little more pungent. Also I can taste a hint of caramel malts. Whatever mix they used for this was perfect. Just an outstanding west coast IPA.
Overall this beer rocks a hop heads dream. And since the brewery is about 5 miles from my house I will be enjoying more of these.

note- This was my very first beer review.

Picked this one up at the brewery just up the road. The brewery is supper small, about the size of a large 3 car garage and it is crammed in there. Worth the trip though since alpine beer is very hard to find even 20 minutes up the road in San Diego.

Wonderful golden color off the tap. Nice little froth on top, creamy in color. Clear as it gets for an IPA and just begs to be drank.

Hops to the 100th degree hear. So much citrus and flower hints you can hardly stand it. Lots of orange and lime along with the fruity flower smell. It simply reaks of hops. Almost smells like rasta herb when you really breath deep, it is so nice.

Wow, all those smells simply explode into your mouth. Not for those who arent used to big hoppy beers. Bitterness is way less than you expect but it is there, balanced well with the malts that are used. Pure hoppiness is an accurate descripter. TONS of slighlty tart citrus. so nice.

The only true downside to me is the mouthfeel when you drink a couple. The excessive hops lead to an almost oily mouthfeel, more so than alot of other double IPAs I have had. Mouthfeel reminds me of drinking from the terrapinator from Terrapin brewing company.

Very drinkable and make for good beer to impress friends with. If you find it buy all they will let you. Every place I have found it limits the amount you can buy, even at the brewery. As of Sept 2007 you can buy 6-22oz at the brewery but as many growlers as you like. Just watch out if you drink several pints as the slick feeling in your mouth compounds.

This one is in my personal top 5 easy!

Christmas present from sister-in-law, sent from southern California. Close to perfect west coast IPA and I'm consider myself a discerning IPA fan, partial to west coast hops and malts. I'm not sure what else needs to be said, yet have to meet the minimum character limit. I'm not sure how to define drinkability or mouthfeel, and really who cares what the beer looks like, but it looked fine. Citrusy hops, well balanced. I'd love to drink it every day.
